Concealment - Exposure Of Evil Works

Since the beginning o f recorded
events in the history o f m ankind; he
has attem pted to hide or deny his
shortcom ings, bad judgem ent, greed,
covetousness, selfishness, etc.; but
his "sins" have alw ays been exposed
for all to see. The length o f tim e it
takes for sins to be exposed is not
defined, nor is the degree o f punish
ment o r retribution; but it is prom
ised be God, that every sin has its
punishm ent, which will be exacted
against the sinner. Since all have
sinned, and since the penalty for sin
is death; it is only through the love of
God that forgiveness com es and only
through the death, burial and resur
rection o f Jesus C hrist that the wages
of sin is paid in full, for all who
believe in God, the C reator, G od the
R edeem er, and G od, the C om forter
and consciousness o f m ankind.
In Gen. 3:8 we find Adam and Eve
hiding from God; well aware that they
had sinned against him. By this same
knowledge and reasoning, we, who
believe in God, should suspect as not
being truthful nor trustworthy, any
personts) who acts under cover of
darkness. Job 24:16. Suspect any

lines openly. Isaiah 29:15 "W oe unto
them that seek deep to hide theircoun-
sel from the Lord, and their works are
in the dark, and they say "W ho sees
us"? And "W ho knows us."? Proverbs
28:13 says that he that covereth his sins
shall not prosper. Isaiah 3 0 :1 (speak
ing o f G od-follow ers) "Woe to arebel-
lious people that take counsel, but not
my counsel, and cover their sins, but
not with my Spirit. They do this that
they may add sin upon sin".
T he w orks o f darkness can be
concealed for a little while; but the
light will soon shine brightly on these
w orks and careers will be ruined and
fam ilies will dissolve and freedoms
will vanish, for there is a price to pay
for all secret hidden sins done in the
tw ilight, in the evening, in the black
and dark night.

person (s ) they seek to hurt and h arm .

activ ities with hearts that device
wicked imaginations, feel that be swift
in running to m ischief. (Prov. 6 : 18).
Their thoughts are thoughts o f w ick
edness, w asting and destruction are
in their paths". T he G odly person
m ust not yield or be draw n in by the
sw eetness o f their speech; nor their
ability to m ake unreasonable acts
appear reasonable. G od's servants
must be so b eran d vigilant lest we fall
into their traps; for they cannot carry
out their evil deeds, unless they have
the support o f others m ore righteous
than they, w hom they can lead astray.

those who stir up strife, especially
when it is directed against a man
called o f G od or against a people of

selfish, righteous or unrighteous?

includes a suggested prayer service
to be celebrated w hen the cross ar
rives at the parish church, as well as
songs and prayers to use in the pro
cession from one parish to the next.
Each parish will also receive a book
let for prayers and petitions “T o
gether W e P ray ” . This booklet will
provide space for each parish to in
clude its prayers for the sesquicen

Each participating parish will be
designing a banner for the pilgrim -
age, w hich will be carried along the
p arish 's pilgrim age route and carried
at the Sesquicentennial M ass on July
24. Photographs from each stop on
the trip will be collected for a m em o
rial booklet to be published later
recounting the story and particip a
tion during this pilgrim age. The cross
being used in the pilgrim age was
provided by St. M a ry 's C athedral. It
will be housed each night at a parish
along the route. For stretches o f the
route w hich are too distant to walk,
o r unable to be w alked for safety
concerns, the pilgrim age cross will
be traversed by a van donated for this
pilgrim age by L am p h ere’s o f Bea
verton.

O regon City on June 20. T he arch
diocese w as founded as the A rchdio
cese o f O regon C ity in 1846. The
pilgrim age cross has been through
the T ualatin Vally, to A storia, to
Brookings, to M edford and up the
W illam ette V alley. It reaches Port
land are parishes on Friday, July 19.

A federal judge Tuesday dismissed a
libel suit brought by the Church of
Scientology International against Time
W;imer Inc over a 1992 Time magazine
piece that was highly critical of die church.
U.S. District Judge Peter Leisure said
no reasonable jury would find actual mal
ice in the 10-page article entitled
“ Scientology: The Cult of Greed.’’ The
Los Angeles-based church alleged that
statements made in the 7,500 word piece
were false and defamatory.

T he A rchbishop o f C anterbury,

w orldw ide, spoke out Friday against
a decline in m orals, saying religion
had been reduced to a hobby in Brit
ain.
Dr G eorge C arey, said m orality
seem ed to have becom e a case o f
personal choice. “ It’s a do-it-your
self approach W e ’ve lost a sense of
right and w rong." he told BBC radio.
He added that society w ould perish
unless the difference betw een right
and w iung was taught.
“W hat I want to do is to start a
debate w hich looks at the w hole o f
m orality and how we can form ch il
dren to grow up as m oral and resp o n
sible agents in so ciety .”
Carey later delivered a keynote
speech in the House o f Lords, the
uppercham ber o f B ritain's Parliament,
on society’s moral and spiritual w ell
being in which he com plained that
God was "being banished to the realm
of the private hobby.”
Church attendance in Britain has
fallen steadily since the turn of the
century and Carey said many people
now found it em barrassing to talk about
religion or m orality in public.

Anniversary o f the Archdiocese
The youth o f the A rchdiocese o f
Portland will m ark the 150th anni
versary o f the archdiocese by partici
pating in a S esquicentenm al Youth
Pilgrim age. The P ilgrim age will be
gin at St. John the A postle Parish in
O regon C ity on June 20, and co n
clude at he archdiocesan Sesquicen-
tennial M ass on W ednesday, July 24
at the C hiles C enter at the U niversity
of Portland. Each parish has an as
signed route, and each is planning
their ow n activities around this event.
Parish program s may include a Mass,
spiritual exercises, educational ac
tivities, historical reflectio n s and
com m unity celebrations.
Youth, young adults and adults
will participate in a relay which in
cludes the passing o f a cross from
parish to parish up and dow n the
archdiocese. The principal partici
pants will be youth ages 13 to 18
years o f age. The Pilgrim age will be
a walk o f faith and an opportunity for
participating youth to take part in this
historical anniversary celebration. Its
purpose is to increase aw areness

activities and their fall will be great.
"The heavens will reveal his/her in
econom ic com petitors, but w ho can
not string tw o sentences together
about the m eaning and purpose of
life or who have no idea w hat it
m eans to be a good citizen and a
moral person.”
W riting in the Telegraph n ew spa
per, Carey said, “Successful busi
ness survives on the invisible c u r
rency o f trust, integrity and resp o n si
bility. W ithout honesty and faithful
ness, business degenerates into ch a
otic gangsterism ."

remaining issue.
The article alleged that Scientology,
rather than being a bonalide religion, is
mganizedforthcpurposeofinakingmoney
by legitimate and illegitimate means. The
article detai led al leged schemes used by the
church to increase its revenues. It also
criticized the church on other subjects,
including the validity of its belief sy stem,
the hannfulnes of its methods of counsel
ing and its tactics of combatting critics.
“These statements were either n< >t chal
lenged by plaintilf or were held to be
nonactionable by theCourton thegrounds
that no reasonable jury could find that they
were published with actual malice," the
judge wrote.
The remaining issue in the case in-
volved the statement that one source of the
church’s funds is "the notorious, self-regu-
kited stock exchange in Vancouver, B.C.,
often called the scam capital of the world.”
Leisure said he found that the statement
was not made with actual malice and was
not libelous.
The Church of Scientology said in a
statement that it would appeal the ruling.
Rev. Heber Jentzsch said the judge made
no findings in his opinion that the state
ments made in the Time article were true.
“The court’s silence about falsity is very
eloquent. Time shouldn' t find comfi xt in a
dubious legal proposition that would shield
lies behind bias," he said.
