Black Olympians Of The 20th Century
Carl Lewis won eight gold medals and a silver medal in the Olympics
from 1984 to 1992. He was the first winner o f four gold medals in a
single Olympics since Jesse Owens, one o f the greatest of all track
and field athletes.
Cheryl Miller led her team to the gold medal in basketball during the
1984 Olympics. Born Jan. 3, 1964 in Riverside, Calif., she has been
described as the greatest women's basketball player of all time.
Rafer Johnson won a silver medal in the decathlon during the 1956
Olympics and then won a gold in the 1960 games. Johnson excelled
in track events, football, basketball and baseball high in high
school, concentrating at age 16 on the decathlon.

Valerie Brisco-Hooks led the American track and field team with
three Olympic gold medals in 1984 and a silver in 1988.

as they tell this 90-minute inspirational and humurous story
through old Negro spirituals, gospels, dancing, African
drumming and original scores
