T he parcel, approxim ately 10 acres, is located three m iles east o f P o rtland’s International Airport. G roundbreaking is planned as soon as M arch with construction expected to take at least a year. The new facility is in te n d ed to a c c o m m o d a te the co m p an y ’s rapid sales grow th, which has dem anded production gains o f m ore than 70 percent a year for the last live years. In the m eantim e, the com pany will m eet production de­ m ands through its existing plant and established co-production alliances. “W e expect the new plant to lower production costs and im prove our c o m p e titiv e p o s i t i o n ,” sa id M ichael P. Rubic, vice president o f operations for W holesom e and Hearty.
