Each of these young ladies work
close with advisors the first set of
advisors are Ms. Rica Brooks, Ms.
Dolores Jeffries and Ms. Karen
Ridgeway. They all have several
young ladies that they keep in touch
with and make sure they are aware of
all activities and any changes that
may occur.

“As a prospective debutante I
bring respect, good morals, a sense
of humor, professionalism, a knowl­
edge of where I’m going and how to
get there. I have total respect for Les
Femmes, it provides positive role
models for me as well as the commu­
nity. This organizations has changed
me in so many ways. Young black
women need organizations like this
to keep us strong and in our right
minds and most of all positive.”

M arie Jim m erson, a senior at
Jefferson High School, is the daugh­
ter o f Mary Solan and Ronnie
Jimmerson.
“As a prospective debutante, I
?ring my new ideas to improve the
group and to make it more successful
and complete. I hope to teach my
younger family members about the
organization and hope to send them
o Les Femmes. I bring my charm
and happy face so if some one is
down I can cheer them with a joke.”

Sophia McMillan, a senior at Wilson
high School, is the daughterof Janice
and Wardell Friday.
“ I bring to Les Femmes the
knowledge that when I have com­
pleted this program, I will have a
more zealous and picturesque view
of my lifes direction. My decision to
attain what many young black wom­
en think is unattainable; high school,
college, without being pregnant,
wrong crowds or dropping out. I
have beat the odds that have been set
for me and other young black wom­
en. I bring the determination to ab-

Adventure Calls! Explore a life-sized game board featuring adventures
with favorite nursery rhyme and fairy tale character. Help them get out of
their predicaments by calling for advice on a cellular phone! Our newest
exhibit opens June I.
Put Your Best Eace F o r w a rd - Give your self a whole new look with our
do-it-yourself face paints in the Green D<x>r Gallery. Then, help make a
wall of faces (every day in June) in the Clayshop. You can add on to a
collaborative sculpture! Every Monday and Thursday IOam-1:30pm.
Paint and Glaze Days - Looking for the perfect gift for Father’s Day?
Come paint yourclay creation that’salready been fired or glaze your piece
and we’ll fire it again. The cost is $.50 per item. Sat, June 39:45-11:15am

Under The Banyan Tree In Om okunle Village - Learn to make beaded
paper jewels fit for a king; get an introduction to Nigerian fishing and
make your own fish to take home, or decorate stationary with traditional
African symbols. W e’ll rotate these activities throughout the month. Sat,
l2-4pm; Sun, I-4pm; Mon, I lam-2pm.
July Events
A Bird In The Hand - Turn your hands into whimsical birds or butterflies
by making finger puppets in the Green Door Gallery. Every Monday and
Thursday IOam-1:30pm.
Fantasy Banquet - Add to our fun feast in the Clayshop. We’ll have a
table-sized collaborative sculpture you c an put your own touches on!

Tenise Penn, a senior at Benson High
School, is the daughter o f Lois Penn
and the late Mckenzie Simpson.
“ I’ll bring honesty, realism
and humor. I have my own style,
i’m not a follow er I’m a leader. I
know where I’m going, knowing
where your going is very im por­
tant. But most o f all know who
you are. Never le, any one define
you, ifyou let that happen, y o u ’ll
be forever lost I bring a Io, o f
advice, I like to try and help peo­
ple. I will respect people.”
The Children’s
Transportation
Project
The Children’s Transportation
Project is a volunteer program that
works to provide safe transportation
to children in need o f medical and
mental health services. Children are
referred to the program by Children’s
Services Division. Many o f the chil­
dren are victims of abuse and require
ongoing counseling to deal with are
the previous and, often-times, con­
tinuing difficulties in their lives.
Volunteers are needed to pro­
vide transportation Monday through
Friday from 8.00 a m. to 6:00 p m..
We ask that on-going volunteers give
one I 1/2 to 3 hour shift per week,
and fill in volunteers give time as
they are available.

Dawn Phillips, a senior at Benson
High School, is the daughter o f Betty
and Greg Phillips.

years that I have been in Les Femmes.
I bring dedication, respect, support­
ive ideas and my well mannered be­
havior I also bring honesty, my great
up bringing, ability to work hard and
my sensitivity to others around me. I
bring the ability to help others and to
take time ou, to listen to them. I bring
courage, time and energy to help in
the community and a, school.”
