Low Voltage Outdoor Lighting Illuminates Decks
The a ttra c tiv e M a rin e r S urface/D eck L ig h t fro m In te rm a tic
M a lib u provides low voltage illu m in a tio n fo r decks and other
o utd oo r locations.
Americans seeking to maximize the
amount o f time they spend outdoors
have discov ered the benefits o f add
ing decks to their homes. That's one
o f the key reasons low voltage out
door lig h tin g systems co n tin u e to
grow in popularity.
''M illio n s o f homeowners use low
Voltage lights around their yards and
gardens, and now they're discovering
that the lights provide the same ben
efits on decks." says Phil Kinzer. mar
k e tin g m anager fo r In te r m a tic ’ s
.Malibu brand low voltage outdoor
lights. "In recent years, a broad range
o f low voltage lights designed specifi
cally for decks has become available."
According to Kinzer, these are the
current best-selling deck lights:
•M ariner Surface/Deck l ights fea
ture a translucent w hite lens and deco
rative black frame. Designed fo r e i
ther horizontal or vertical mounting,
the lights are recommended fo r use
around .steps, railings and benches.

fo r h a rd-to-light areas under railings
and around deck edges. The versatile
fixtures are av ailable in either a rect
angular or square shape and feature a
crysta l-like prism atic lens that d e liv
ers just the right amount o f brightness
w ithout glare.
Homeowners also can obtain spe
cial surface-mount brackets that per
m it traditional low voltage fixtures,
such as mushroom lights and flo o d
lights. to be mounted on the deck. In
addition, a sw ivel-m ount bracket en
ables lights to be mounted at angles
up to 180 degrees.
Installing low voltage deck lights
is a relatively easy project. An entire
six-light set. including the pow er pack
and cable, can be installed in about
an hour w ith just a few tools. The sys
tems and all accessories are av ailable
at local hardware stores, home center
stores and stores that carry products
fo r do-it-yourselfers.
"The beauty o f low voltage lighting
is that you can use your imagination and
creativity to produce a unique plan. '
adds Kinzer. "People like to create a
distinctive layout that reflects their per
sonality and tastes. Low voltage lig h t
ing not only provides a sense o f accom
plishment. but it permits you to enjoy
the soft glow o f the lights when you're
sitting on your deck at night."
To help homeowners design, select
and install a low voltage lighting sys
tem. Interm atic offers an inform ative
guide called " l ight Up Your L ife " that
features a special section on decks. To
