Patricia Powell
author of Me Dying Trial, reads
from her new novel
A Small Gathering
o f Bones
Jamaican-born Patricia Powell's first novel. Afc Dying Trial, met with
acclaim. Now this rising literary talent is back with her second work of
fiction, A Small Gathering o f Bones (Heinemann), a frank and sensitive
novel exploring the complexity of gay lite. An insightful storyteller who
is not afraid to tackle difficult and intricate social issues, Powell weaves
a compelling narrative about homosexuality, intolerance, religion, fam
ily relationships and a new illness, not yet identified as AIDS. As with
her first novel, .4 Small Gathering o f Bones is written in lyrical language,
filled with the cadences of Jamaican English. The rhythm of the prose
pulls in the readers, making them one with the rhythm of the culture.
