rom the beginning o f time man has been in search o f something new. It
appears that when God commanded Adam not to eat o f the tree o f the knowl
edge of good and evil. He ignited an intrigue in man that has been almost
impossible tor man to rid himself of. As Americans it seems that this attitude is nor
mal, especially when it comes to the Church. It seems that the Church is always in
search o f something different or new. The Church today is no different than the
Epicureans and the Stoics of Apostle Paul’s day. We meet every day in the
Areopagus of life “ spending time in nothing else. But either to tell, or to hear some
new thing. (Acts 17) I think I understand now. how and why people can go o ff and
be apart of other religions after being raised around the Christian Church. I have
noticed that Christianity seems to be always developing. It seems, especially at this
particular time in history, that the Church has no enduring foundation to stand on.
We say all the time that our foundation is Jesus Christ, but in all actuality the Church
does very little of what Jesus taught. It appears that there is nothing that a person can
really depend on. What may be true today, may or may not be true tomorrow. There
seems to be no immutable discipline that we adhere to or even teach. The Church is
always in a stage o f development. This attitude of constant development may be
accurate, when it comes to the individual believer and his/her personal sanctification,
however when this attitude o f constant development is incorporated into the corpo
rate body it can become a dangerous device that satan uses to deceive people into
believing that there are no Absolutes. I believe that wha, it all boils down to is this:
In this modem era o f the Church can we rely on God’s word. Is it sufficient for the
C hurch today? Does the Bible provide a sure foundation for the corporate body? Or
should the ( hurch have the same goal as the Starship Enterprize. to boldly go where
no man has ever gone b e fo r e ■
