Cocaine Seized
In Drugs Arrests

Sheriffs Special Investigations Unit
arrested five people and seized a half
kilo of cocaine, $28,(XX) in cash,
weapons, a vehicle and pagers in a
late night arrest last week
Acting on information obtained
from an informant, deputies set up a
surveillance at the north end of
Clackamas Town Center parking lot
in the late hours of Dec. 14.
The deputies witnessed a trans­
action between two individuals in a
white 1983 Ford Thunderbird and
other suspects waiting for them
Rep. Elizabeth Furse, D-Ore. has
been appointed to the Commerce
Committee for the 104th Congress
which begins in January. Furse said
she worked to get on this exclusive
panel because it will help Oregon
firms grow.
"Oregon’s economy is driven
by the high-tech industries in the
First District,” Furse said.
Police said in the course of the
transaction, a package containing
approximately one and a half kilos of
cocaine was exchanged between the
suspects.
Some of the suspects were fol­
lowed to a residence in Vancouver.

Drug Task Force assisted deputies in

Help Sought In Residential
Murder Probe
Police are asking for assistance
from the community in the investi­
gation into the murder of James
Loupe. 39, who was shot and killed
when four suspects, all armed with
handguns, entered his resident on
the 5700 block of North Interstate.
Erin Conoway, 34, was also beaten
by the suspects during the Sunday,
Dec. 11 evening incident. The
couple’s twin seven year old boys
were present during the crime. The
four suspects stole money, then fled
on foot.
Detectives are releasing two
drawings of possible suspects in con­
nection with this investigation.
Reward money is available
through the Crime Stoppers program.
Anyone with information on this in­
cident is asked to call Detectives
Edward Herbert or Kent Perry at

at 823-HELP.

Produce Cookbook
Members of the Blazers Wives
Association were at Blazers On
Broadway Saturday to autograph
copies of their latest cookbook.
“Having a Ball Cooking, Vol­
ume Two.” Susie Porter, Shelly
Bryant and several other members of
the association were on hand to greet
customers and promote their latest
charity project.
The Blazer W ives A ssocia­
tion has chosen to rekindle the
success of its cookbook from the
1991-92 season that raised over
$60,000 for a local charity with a
second edition. Volum e Two
features recipes from husbands,
partners, parents, B lazers B road­
casting personalities, alum ni and
other basketball operations staff
and includes a new section titled
"Kids Kooking” where you will find
dishes such as Clyde Austin’s Buck­
wheat Griddle Cakes.
The wives have made a commit-
ment to split the proceeds from
the sale of the book in equal por­
tions among three local charities
th a t fo c u s on w om en an d
ch ild re n ’s issues. They include
G reenhouse, a drop-in center that
m inisters to at-risk youth living
on P o rtlan d 's street.
Urban Progress, an inner north/
northeast Portland support service
that provides 24 hour “safe haven”
capability to children and families
at-risk of violence and crime.

the appointment of Gale Castillo to
the Portland Development Commis­
sion.
C astillo is the principal of
Castillo and Associates, a Portland
business consulting firm. In addi­
tion. she provides technical assis­
tance to minority and women-owned
business throughout Oregon. In this
capacity she has worked for the Or­
egon Department of Transportation,
Oregon Economic Development
Department, Tri-Me, and PDC
Some o f the highlights of
Castillo's career include being an
assistant to form er Gov. Neil
Godlschmidt, state manager of a Job
Training Partnership program, ac­
count executive for AT&T and Pa-

cific Northwest Bell and project co­
ordinator for the Community Reha­
