December’s Children David is a healthy, bright-eyed two-year-old who cackles with de light over life’s simple pleasures, such as bubble baths. David is one of the younger of the 150 Oregon chil dren currently awaiting adoptive fam ilies. Described as “all boy,” David likes to keep busy running, jumping, and rough-housing. Toy trains and tricycles top his list o f favorite play things. David is also capable of qui et, calmer activities. He enjoys being read to and sung to sleep. While David eagerly soaks up the attention and affection he re ceives from his older foster siblings, he is also very gentle and appropriate with the younger babies that have been in the home. David’s casework er believes he would adjust to almost any type o f family composition, as long as his new parents are active, involved, and available. David is healthy and “on-target” for his age developmentally. Normal two-year-old temper tantrums are easily mitigated by redirection or time-outs. David shows normal cog nitive abilities, and his pediatrician David Julian sees no causes for concerns in any area. If you are a young, active fami ly, please consider adopting David! Oregon agencies waive or re duce fees for families adopting older (non-infant) children like David. Pre adoption orientation meetings and training classes are offered on a reg ular basis. Julian is a beautiful two-year- old whose features reflect his Mexi can-American heritage. He is one of the younger 150 Oregon children currently awaiting adoption. Julian is active, responsive, and generally happy. Toys that make music especially hold his attention. Julian interacts well with his foster T A R PORTLAND FIRST NAZARENE W ORSHIP AND DRAMA M IN IS TR IES parents and their acquaintances. He is beginning to use simple sentences and is quite talkative when in famil iar surroundings. Julian appears to be intellectually and developmental ly appropriate for his age Julian had a difficult start in life, as he was born addicted to several illegal drugs, and su f fered severe w ithdraw als. He was placed in his current foster home directly from the hospital. As with many children exposed pre- natally to drugs, future effects are not clearly predictable. Julian needs a fam ily to accept him with the unknowns about his future potential. Single adults as well as couples are encouraged to explore adoption. Pre-adoption information meeting and training classes are available throughout the state. I saac s We Call It Sunday Morning Worship, But Most OfUs View It As A “Preaching Service. Today, as opposed to my growing-up day, prin ciples o f biblical worship are not sought as the foundation of Church practice. We view the Preacher’s sermon as significantly more impor tant than the entire congregation’s act o f praise, confession, adoration, thanksgiving and dedication. These views rob the Church o f its spiritual assets. We work hard to reach the world for Christ to build up the body o f Christ, but neglect to give our first best love to God Himself-—which is essentially what worship is about. Going through the motions of Church are causing believers to lose interest and Church attendance rap idly dwindles. Fellowship with God without proper worship is a fallacy. Proper worship o f God cre ates within believers a concern for such matters as integrity, spirituality, balance, excellence, emotion, intel ligence, motivation, corporate action, sound doctrine and spontaneity. God is first. God is worthy. There is no true worship without the Holy Spirit present in us. We LEARN through the Holy Spirit to worship in spirit and truth. To love God completely with all our heart, soul, strength and mind. Worship is about God, not man, and worship is what God desires from us. God Is Spirit— therefore, worship is a state o f the heart, not a place; “Neither in the mountain nor in Jerusalem shall ye worship”, Jesus’ statement to the Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob. (John 4:19-24) “But an hour is com ing, and now is, when the true wor shipper shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be his worshippers”. We ask How and Where questions, but Jesus’ answers deal with reality, with spirit and truth. Attitude makes a difference in worship. By faith Abel offered a bet ter sacrifice than Cain. Through faith we can please God. Genesis 4:4, Hebrews 11:4 -G o d the Father has desired true worshippers from the beginning. God does not need our worship”. God is complete, perfect and sufficient. But God the Creator desires the adoration of His people. We must relate to God from the inner person, from the heart. “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come!’ We do not require another Preacher, new songs, a new structure, a different Service format, it is we who need the change. We require a renewed reverence for God. “Heart Worship is a Style of Life”; for then we will come to wor ship no matter who is preaching, singing or visiting. There are many areas that “Hurt" among congregations and individual Christians. So many needs scream for attention, that we attempt symp tom rel iefwith programs, workshops, counseling sessions, etc., but the “pains” continue and the needs grow stronger. We have become experts at hearing the Word of God, but remain babes in doing the Word of God. Worship Means To Respond To God. Worship Is Revelation And Re sponse. How can we love one anoth er if we do not practice loving God. We must become accustomed to speaking o f our God. We must prac tice our praise on one another, then we’ll find it easy, natural to tell of the goodness o f God in the community, on the job or on our school campus. God revealed to the Prophet Isaiah and in every case Isaiah re sponded to the revelation. Revealed in vision the awesome power o f God, Isaiah 6:1-4. Response was Isaiah’s recognition of his sinful state (v5). Isaiah’s recognition and confession brought about God’s action of cleans ing and forgiveness (v6-7). God re veals His plan and need o f a messen ger; Isaiah’s response “Here am I, send me”. (v8). The pattern of wor ship has not changed. God still re veals His plan and His will; those that worship in spirit and truth will re spond. They are not ones who seek and beg for God’s Will, they know him, therefore, His Will is perfectly clear. We must have respect, rever ence and awe for the Holy Name of God. We must glory in His Name. Who comes to worship God? One who has studied well the words con cerning the indescribable Glory, majesty, and Wonder of our God. Psalm 29, Psalm 47, Psalm 104:1. We do not know fully what is ahead o f us, but we know when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 1 John 3:2 NIV. Practice His Presence. Trust in God with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path, (make your paths straight). Proverbs 3:5-6. Ac knowledge Him (ie) know actively the presence of God. We must wor ship personally, daily, hourly to be fully practiced in corporate worship. We are a community of God’s peo ple. We need each other as we wor ship God. “Let us consider one an other so as to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling o f ourselves together as is the man ner of some, but exhorting one an other, and so much more as you see the Day approaching”, Hebrews 10:24,25. NK.JV. We are mutually dependent on each other. It is in the community (Church) that God is ba sically at work. We cannot cut our selves off from God’s people with out cutting ourselves off from the blessings of God. We are responsi ble to God as individuals, but we worship Him best together. Worship with God's people in the Church is not optional, but imperative, and watching T.V. Services is, except perhaps for “shut-ins”, no substitute. We worship God not because we feel like it, but because He is God and worship is His due and our necessity. Who will enter to Worship? Those who worship God before they approached the Church building. And when they enter, they enter to do in public that which they have already done in private: To Adore The Liv ing God. Those who enter the wor ship center of Church on Sunday Morning to worship God are those who hold Him in awe. They are also those who practice His Presence in daily living and in private moments.
