Santa Claus
APO HSU to conduct Mervyn's
Kids Holiday Concert December 18;
Concert to be a benefit for the Ore­
gon Food Bank.
A host o f holiday personalities
including R udolph, Frosty The
Snowman, and perhaps even Santa
Claus, will join Apo Hsu and the
Oregon Symphony for the Mervyn’s
Kids Holiday Concert, for a benefit
for the Oregon Food Bank Perfor­
mances are scheduled tor Sunday,
Dec. 18, at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Arlene
Schnitzer Concert Hall in the Port­
land Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $ 12 for adults and $8
for children, 12 and under, and may
be purchased at the Oregon Sympho­
ny Ticket Office at 719 S.W. Alder,
from 9 a m. to 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday, or charged by phone at 228-
1353 or (800) 228-7343 outside the
Port land-metro area. Tickets may also
by purchased at all G .l. J o e ’s
Ticketmaster outlets (224-4400), and
at the Pioneer Place Information
Booth. Service fees may apply.

“It’s Christmas Time” will be
the theme for this year’s Community
Christmas Festival Concert to be held
at Gresham High School Auditorium
on Sunday, December II at 3:00
p.m.
Conducted by Ben Brooks, this
annual concert will including “A
Christmas Festival" and “Sleight
Ride" by Leroy Anderson, “Carol of
the Bells” as conceived by Sherry
Lewis and arranged by Richard
H aym an, “T oyland" by V ictor
Herbert, “ It’s Christmas Time" by
Custer, and “Rockin" Christmas" by
L Sayre. Also included will be a
Christmas medley sing-along by lo­
cal composer. Robert Grindeland.
Featured soloists for this con­
cert will be a clarinet quartet, “Clar­
inets" by L. Schindelmeisser, and
“C hristm as Jazz Suite” by Bill
Holcomb
Also on the program will be a
short recital by students enrolled in
the Pops’ “ KidStrings” program
Now in its third year, this after-school
program taught by Concertmaster,
Cynthia Raxter, and offered through
the Gresham School District, teach­
es children to play the orchestral
string instruments: violin, viola, cel-
