Her books include the store col­
lection Killing C olor which was
awarded a King County Arts Com ­
mission Fiction award in 1989 and
the novel One Dark Body, published
in 1993. Recently she served as a
judge for the 1994 Oregon Book
Awards.
Writer Tom Spanbauer of
Portland will be featured during
a special program at the
Interstate Firehouse Cultural
Center.
Charlotte Watson Sherman, a
Seattle writer who is
accomplished as a poet and
author, will help in a benefit for
the Interstate Firehouse Cultural
Center in North Portland.
Spanbauer is a native of Idaho
who has been an active part o f the
Portland writing community since
1990, both as mentor to students o f
writing through his popular creative
writing workshops. His first novel.
Faraway Places was published in
1986 and he followed with the novel
The Man Who Fell In Love With the
Moon in 1990.
Moon is in its second printing
and now includes several European
and Asian editions. Spanbauer is
currently working a new novel, in the
City o f Shy Hunters.
I FCC is a community-based arts
center committed to creating an en­
vironment in which people o f every
ethnic and cultural background come
together as artists and audience to
explore, preserve and celebrate their
diversity.
The center is a vital and impor­
tant part o f the Northwest arts com­
munity, offering a wide array o f pro­
grams and services.
The Coca-Cola Company has become the first international sponsor of the Sixth All A frica Games to be
held September 1995, in Harare, Zimbabwe. The announcement was made on October 21 at a Pres^
conference in the host city attended by (LtoR) Mcleod Chaora, general manager, Al Africa Games, Car!
Ware senior vice president, The Coca-Cola Company and president, Coca-Cola Africa Group and
Tommy Sithole, chairman, All Africa Games. The Games will be the showcase of African athletic talent
prior to the Centennial Olympic Games to be held in Atlanta in 1996. More than 2,000 athletes from over
45 countries are expected to compete.
Ticketmaster, Fox To Host Series

screenings of “The Pagemaster -- a
movie about a boy w ho’s whisked oft
on incredible adventures with char­
acters from classic literature — tor
inner-city youths in 16 U.S. markets
Saturday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m.
The film opens nationwide Nov.
23. General Cinema Corp. Will host
screenings in the following cities.
Charlotte, N.C.; the Bronx, N.Y.;
Redondo Beach, C alif.; O rlando,
F la., Miami; Hollywood, Calif.; Bos­
ton; Dallas, Chicago; Houston, and
Cleveland. American Multi Cinemas
and Mann Theatres will exhibit in
Seattle; Detroit; Atlanta; W ashing­
ton, D C.; Denver; and Kansas City,
MO.
T ick etm aster’s local general
managers are working closely with
civic leaders in each city to deter­
mine which inner city organizations
and youth groups will attend screen­
ings and coordinate invitation distri­
bution. "The Pagemaster" screenings,
in 16 U.S. cities, are part of a national
effort by Ticketmaster to promote
literacy.
“W e’re delighted to be involved
with this project," said Fred Rosen,
Ticketm aster president and chief
executive officer. “A lot of com pa­
nies talk about getting involved with
the community, but Ticketm aster
does more than just talk, we take
action. 'T h e pagem aster' provides a
wonderful opportunity for the imagi­
nation to run wild and we join Tw en­
tieth Century Fox and the local ex­
hibitors and the com m unities in
launching this very special film."
