Emma Jean Williams was bom in to Mr. and Mrs. Mack
Dawson. She was a person who loved life and enjoyed it all she
could. For Emma Jean, family always came first.
Emma Jean was an enthusiastic member of the Delta Moth
ers, a support organization of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She
particularly enjoyed participating in the group’s various activities
and cherished the many friendships she developed over the years.
Emma Jean also enjoyed visiting her children and other relatives,
when she got the opportunity. Emma Jeans philosophy was,
"Nothing beats failure but a try.” This strong belief was instilled
in her children and grandchildren throughout their lives.
If you could gather all the respect and love that people feel for
Emma Jean, it wouldn't equal the amount of pride Emma Jean had
in her family. Her spirit is here with us now - leaving us these
thoughts and feelings:
“Don’t forget me. Hold on to my memory, but let go of the
sadness. Enjoy life. Work hard and earn your keep. Find peace and
harmony inside of you and share it with those you love.
Services were held at Killingsworth Little Chapel of the
Chimes, Portland, Oregon on October 14, 1994. Interment, Wil
lamette Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.

Aristide acknowledged the large
Haitian community living in Phila
delphia and asked that those in the
church stand and show Gray and the
American people their special thanks.
They did so by chanting praise in
their native language of French.
"Rev. Gray you are a resource
ful facilitator, a skilled negotiator
and a brilliant man. You are more
than a Baptist M inister,” Aristide
said. He also gave praise and grati
tude to President Clinton.
The thrust o f A ristide’s sermon
referred to the peaceful restoration
and celebration o f a new beginning
in Haiti, a new hope for G od’s re
spect, democracy, justice and liberty
for the Haitian people.
He extended an invitation to all
Americans to come and visit Haiti,
and in an unexpected surprise said,
“Rev. Gray, you deserve the medal
of honor, which we will give to you in
Haiti.”

Jean-Bertrand Aristide, addressed an
enthusiastic crowd of supporters and
well wishers at Bright Hope Baptist
Church last week at the invitation of
Senior Pastor W illiam H Gray III,
special advisor to President Clinton
on Haiti and a former Congressman.
In a rare public appearance,
Aristide com m ended Gray for a piv
otal role he played in the restoration
o f democracy in Haiti by the U.S.
government.
In the spirit o f brotherly love,
Father A ristide’s praise for Gray was
overwhelming.
“W ith the persistence of a Bap
tist M inister you were steadfast in
your commitment. We thank you for
your conviction, we thank you for
your dedication, we thank you for the
sense of respect which you always
showed in our relationship. On be
half of my nation, I thank you dear
brother.”
