Energy Consultants:
Soldiers in the Green
Revolution
(NU) - The high cost of energy in
the U nited States and around the
world has spawned the growth o f a
new profession: energy consultant.
T hese p rofessionals audit energy
consum ption at buildings or plants
and then offer ways to reduce elec
tricity use.
Invariably, their reco m m en d a
tions involve the installation o f tech
nologies that reduce energy use, the
most promising o f w hich are passive
in nature. These components are cou
pled to electrically fed item s such
as motors, lighting, air conditioning
and other equipm ent to reduce elec
tric consumption while they operate.
Among the most popular passive
energy-saving units are the Phase
Liner, a device that recycles wasted
electricity from an electric m otor,
and the Fluorescent Light Controller.
This saves up to 50 percent o f the
electricity required to energize flu
orescent bulbs.
Leading the way in the develop
ment of passive energy-saving tech
nologies is Energy A utom ation Sys
