Jacobs Performs
In Portland
Opera Open
Bass-baritone Sherman Ray
Jacobs, whose rich voice is rapidly
earning him a reputation as one of the
most promising young singers on the
operatic stage today, stars in Port
land Opera’s upcoming production
of La Boheme.
D uring A rtq u ak e, Jacobs
brought a packed Pioneer Courthouse
Square audience to its feet with his
powerful rendition of “OP Man River
as he and the rest of the La Boheme
cast performed in a free concert.
A seamless blend of tenderness,
frivolity and fiery passions, La
Boheme runs the gamut of human
emotion. The engaging music, both
high-spirited and heart-wrenching,
as well as the unpretentious and ap
pealing characters make La Boheme
one of the most popular operas in the
modern repertoire.
