Shardad began his collaboration w ith Yanni when the new ager in vited him to arrange the music fo r “ One M an’ s Dream,” which appeared on his album In M y T im e, an eventual p la tin u m seller. W ith the track, Shardad supplemented Y anni’ s o rig i nal keyboard composition w ith ar rangements fo r a 60 piece orchestra. The results, a rich, more deeply la y ered sound, landed Shardad a jo b creating arrangements fo r all thecom- positions on that album as w ell as conductor duties on Y anni’ s subse quent tw o m onth, 42 date tour. W ith a different orchestra in each city to rehearse and ju st three hours before each show to do it, Shardad rose to the challenge and Yanni enjoyed tremen dous c ritica l acclaim. A sym biotic collaboration was also cem ented-Y anni composes m u sic on solo piano, w ritin g as he plays and the classically trained Shardad annotates the music, fram ing Yanni in an orchestral setting. M ost recently, Shardad arranged, conducted and played vio lin on all but two tracks o f Y a n n i’ sTop 10 L iv e at the Acropolis performance album, PBS special and popular home video. Having earned the luxury from his previous tour experience, Shardad also hand-se lected and rehearsed a 40 piece trav eling orchestra fo r Y a n n i’ s ensuring ’ 94 tour, fo r w hich he is currently conducting. For Shardad, composing and ar ranging music has always been just as im p o rta n t as p e rfo rm in g it.
