mother a schoolteacher, a milliner, a journalist, a novelist a publisher and an advocate of
Human Rights. She was a vice-president of the National Women s Suffrage Association, and a
leader of the fight to give women full voting rights. In recognition of her leading ro e.
Governor Oswald West ordered that her vote be the first one cast by a woman in Oregon
