To secure space for the DROP program the D epartm ent o f C om m u­ nity C orrections is transferring funds to the Multnomah County Sheriffs O ffice to “rent” a 28 bed unit in the courthouse jail. Restitution activities in­ clude work release, payment of room and board, payment of court ordered restitu­ tion and required community work projects. Stein praised the cooperation be­ tween the Sheriff’s Office and the DCC. “Taxpayers can be proud that we are developing new ways to make the m ost efficient use o f our facilities. Both the expanded capacity of the system and the focus on quick re­ sponse to offenders who are using drugs will increase public safety.
