with Crime Stoppers, arc asking for
your help in solving a residential
armed robbery.
On Thursday, January 20,1994,
at approximately 1:00 in the m orn­
ing, three subjects, armed w ith hand­
guns, broke into a house in the 4200
Block o f N Michigan.
The home was equipped w ith an
alarm system, but at the tim e it was
not activated.
Once inside the house the sus­
pects demanded money. When the
couple did not produce “ enough
money, the suspects heated a skillet
on the stove and used it to bum them.
Suspect #1 is described as a male
black, 20 years o f age, 6 ’2" tall, w ith

response to the National Education
Goal o f making Am erican students
first in the w orld in math and science
by the year 2000.M athline’ s first in i­
tiative is directed at the training o f
m iddle school teachers (grades 5-8)
and w ill be available beginning in the
fall o f this year. The “ M iddle School
Math project" has three components:
(1) it w ill feature a series o f videos to
help teachers learn to teach math in
newer, more innovative ways; (2) two
national videoconferences for teacher-
participants; and (3) and “ electronics
lcam ingcom m unity” where the teach­
ers w ill be on line with fellow teachers
and a “ mentor teacher” who w ill sup­
port their classroom implementation
o f the standards.

(PBS) recently announced in Wash­
ington, D.C. that Oregon Public
Broadcasting has been selected to
participate in the firs t phase o f
Mathline, PBS’ s new educational ser­
vice dedicated to im proving the pro­
fessional skills o f mathematics edu­
cators and the math achievement o f
students.
