U N IC F raised a record $54.9 m illio n
and its cost-ratio dropped by a fu ll
percentage p o in t to 19.9 percent d u r­
ing the fiscal year, wh ich ended March
31, 1992.
H igh on M r. G ra y ’ s agenda is
m aking U N C F “ more com petitive and
better prepared to increase the am ount
o f funds that w ill be available fo r
d is trib u tio n to our m em ber in s titu ­
tio n s.” U nder his guidance, U N C F
m anagem ent is in s titu tin g a m a jo r
re stru ctu rin g in o rder to im prove its
o ve ra ll co st-e fficie n cy. In ad d ition ,
this new era o f leadership w ill be
m arked by the establishm ent o f a
U N C F research in stitute. The in s ti­
tute w ill coordinate research on is­
sues related to A fric a n -A m e ric a n
education at every le ve l, fro m pre­
school to graduate study.
A s head o f A m e ric a ’ s oldest and
m ost successful black higher educa­
tion assistance organization, M r. Gray
recognizes th is is a c ritic a l tim e fo r
