Seniors Enhance New Year By Volunteering
Crime Stoppers
The ClackamasCounty Sheriff’ s
D epartm ent, in cooperation w ith
C rim e Stoppers, is asking for your
help in apprehending Michael Karl
Lingenfelder. A Clackamas County
C irc u it C ourt warrant, charging him
w ith six counts o f sodomy in the First
Degree and tw o counts o f Sexual
Abuse in the First Degree, has been
issued w ith bail set at S75,(XX). The
v ictim in this case is an eight-year-old
child.
M ichael Karl Lingenfelder is a
2 3-year-oldw hitem ale,5’8" tall, 180
pounds, w ith brown hair and brown
eyes. He has a scar on his left elbow
and tattoos on his right shoulder and
back. He is believed to be currently
carrying falsified identification in the
name o f Justin Michael Case, w ith a
date o f birth o f 10/03/66. His other
aliases inc lude Michael Bryon Ander­
son, Robert Hanson, Michael James
Black, and John Anderson.
Lingenfelder was livin g in the
M ilw au kie area but has since gone
into hiding. He is known to have
friends in Coos Bay and the Medford

Child Sexual Abuse
In recent years, media accounts
o f children who have been sexually
molested have intensified. In many
cases, adults who were victim ized as
children have spoken up to tell hor­
rendous stories o f sexual abuse that
they were forced to endure w hile grow­
ing up. Often these cases involve c h il­
dren who were molested by respected
members o f the community noted for
exemplary devotion to helping oth­
ers. Sometimes the offenders are
employees o f churches, associations
and schools that have the responsibil­
ity for the safety o f the children in
their care.
The elim ¡nation and reduction o f
this abuse is the responsibility o f ev­
ery adult who comes into contact with
children. Parents and educators should
fam iliarize themselves w ith the most
current inform a tion about sexual
abuse to develop and implement ef­
fective prevention and early interven­
tion strategies.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF
SEXUAL ABUSE
• Sexual abuse victims may show
the fo llo w in g “ so ft" sign indicators:
d iffic u lty w ith walking, sitting
and playing; extreme modesty and
unwillingness to change clothes or
expose any body parts in the presence
o f other;
• extrem e fear o f being ap­
proached, touched or examined by
others;
• extreme fear o f going home, to
school or day care, or to a friend’ s or
relative’ s home;
• extreme fear o f traveling with
parent, relative or friend’ s parent;
• running away from home, leav­
ing school or day care or from a
relative’ s or friend’ s home;
• adolescent prostitution;
sexual behaviors, references or
vocabulary that are atypical or un­
usual fo r the c h ild ’ s age;
• sexual knowledge that is too
sophisticated fo r the c h ild ’s age;
• seductive behavior that appears
to be inappropriate fo r the age o f the
child;
• w ithdraw n, infantile o r fan­
tasy-filled behavior;
• attempted suicide or talk o f
suicide;
• extreme changes in school per­
formance and behavior;
• unaccountable accumulations
o f money, objects, clothing, candy or
other material items; and
• indirect allusions o f the c h ild ’s
fears, worries, concerns o r anxieties.
Other signs of sexual abuse in­
clude such physical indicators as:
• stained or bloody clothing or
underwear, ether tom or not tom;
• blood or semen in or around the
mouth, anus o r genital area o f a v ic ­
tim ;
• the presence o f inanimate or
foreign objects in the anus or vagina;
• genitalia/anus that are swollen,
inflamed, infected, bloody, bruised,
tom, lacerated or have a lax muscle
tone that suggests stretching or forc­
ing; scars, scabs, cuts or bite marks on
or around the genitals, buttocks,
mouth, breasts, neck or thighs; sexu­
a lly transmitted diseases in children;
• irritations, rashes, discharges
or unusual odors around the genital
area; and
• pregnancy (especially in young
adolescent girls).

National Scholar by the Horatio Alger
Association o f Distinguished A m eri­
cans, Inc. He joins seventy-one other
students nationally who w ill be rec­

In addition to a $5,000 scholar­
ship to the college o f his choice, Lavert
w ill be a guest o f the Horatio Alger
Association at the National Scholars
Conference in Washington, D.C.,
