a public service and does not profit
from the screening costs, the national
average cost for mammography ex­
ams is $125.
Last year, 754 w om en were
screened at mammography vans sta­
tioned at Pier 1 stores. O f those, 50
women, were referred to their physi­
cians for further testing
Founded in 1982, The Susan G.
Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is
devoted to finding a cure for breast
cancer and educating women on pre­
vention and detection this of deadly
disease. The Komen Foundation’s
RACE For The Cure Series of 5K and
1-mile run/walks raises funds for
breast cancer research.

Courts consider the bond between
parents and children a strong one. but
occasionally allow that bond to be
broken Among the ways this can be
done is through adoption.
Adoption is a court action that
ends the parental rights of one or both
parents and gives those rights to an ­
other adult or adults. After an adop­
tion is final, the adopting couple are
considered the child’s natural parents
even if they divorce.
Adoption can be done with or
without consent from one or both
natural parents. W ithout consent, the
natural parent or parents must be
given notice of the adoption, either by
personal service of publication. It’s a
good idea to use a lawyer because it’s
im portant for adoptions to be done
correctly.

The vehicle used by the suspects,
a maroon, 1983 Oldsmobile, 2-door
Cutlass, with Oregon plates, was re­
ported stolen two days before the ho­
micide occurred. The vehicle was re­
covered the m orning after in the 2800
Block o f NE 8th Avenue.

now exists for information leading to
the arrest o f the suspects involved in

solving a murder.
On Friday, July 30,1993, at 10:45
in the morning, two men armed with
handguns entered the administrative
offices o f the Headstart Program, lo­
cated at 3417 NE 7th Avenue, and
began shooting.
Shot and killed at the scene was

black female, who was an employee at
Headstart and the mother of three
children.
