SPELLING CONTEST
Students who won county spell­
ing contests participated in the O r­
egon Spelling contest Saturday, Sept.
4, at the State Fair.
Students in grades kindergarten
through 5 competed, followed by
grades 6-8 and grades 9-12. The event
was held on the floral garden stage.

trad itio nal spelling bee. Students
h ad ten seconds to spell each w ord
on p a p e r a fte r it w as pronounced,
used in a sentence and pronounced

S earch,” com ing close to the show ’s

Follow ing that. Bill C osby cast
S inbad in a co-starring role on “A
D ifferent W o rld ,” w hich he a p ­
peared in for four seasons. W hile
ap p earin g in the popular series, he
a lso served as host o f the late night
v ariety series “ It’s Show tim e a t the
A p o llo .”
During his stint on “Showtime,”
he recorded his first comedy album,
“Brain Damaged,” which was the
basis o f his first HBO Comedy Spe­
cial o f the same title. His most recent
HBO Comedy Special, “Afros and
Bellbottoms,” brought him further
accolades.

and “ M eteor M an.”
Bom November 17 in Brighton
Harbour, Michigan, Sinbad currently
lives in Los Angeles and has two
children.

The pageant has evolved into a week­
