The Oregon Departm ent of Forestry is currently recruiting for
Adm inistrative Specialist 2, Fire Prevention Analyst. This re­
cruitm ent will be used to fill one vacancy in Salem.
The Adm inistrative S pecialist 2 - Fire Prevention Analyst - coor­
dinates the co llection,o f data for district protection surveys,
m aintains and distributes the instructions for the fire reporting
system, develops and m aintains a landowner fire patrol assess­
m ent data base, and provides adm inistrative support to the
Protection division prevention program.
Q ualifications are: tw o years of experience as an adm inistrative
specialist or executive support specialist which included adm in­
istrative support for a project, program, or other operation.
Adm inistrative support includes duties beyond clerical/secre-
tarial such as interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations;
adm inistrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of
projects, processes and operations; OR an equivalent com bi­
nation of training and experience. One year of postsecondary
education m ay be substituted for up to one year of experience.

Basic Purpose;
Under the m ost general direction, acts as a top level technical
contributor for the m ost highly specialized areas of application
system s. M ajor duties are an extension of those of the Technical
Analyst II in both com plexity and responsibility.
Essential Functions;
Im plem ents and/or m odifies system s softw are; operating sys­
tems, networks, data base m anagem ent system s and/or trans­
action-processing m onitors, via product releases and utilities to
ensure a stable and efficient com puting environm ent.
Utilizes know ledge in own area of em phasis as well as related
areas to develop new ways of solving problem s in an m anner
consistent with com pany strategies.
C ontributes specialized expertise as part of larger project team s.
Assists at all levels of technical quality assurance reviews.
Applies technical know ledge to ensure hardw are and/or software
is operating at optim al levels, may have responsibility for highly
technical projects or studies.
R esponsible for assessing and recom m ending softw are and/or
hardware. Provides guidance to and/or assists in training other
personnel.
Experience & Education;
Experience. This position requires 10 years of progressively
responsible is experience (minim um 5yrs UNIX). Requires abil­
ity to access, input and retrieve inform ation from the com puter.
Requires experience with m ultiple operating system s and pro­
gram m ing languages. M ust have excellent oral com m unication
skills with fact and diplom acy. Requires ability to analyze w ork
situations,visualize and develop solutions int he absence of clear
expectations or procedures. Requires advanced reading com ­
prehension, reasoning and problem solving skills. Know ledge Of
X 1 1 and M otif window ing environm ents. Prior experience creat­
ing shell scripts using Korn shell, DCE and DME technologies
required. A minim um 3 yrs supporting a “production quality UNIX
m ulti-vendor networked environm ent in a com m ercial/engineer-
ing establishm ent. Fam iliarity with Solaris 2.2/SV.4 operating
system desirable.
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. A college degree
in an IS related field is desirable and will substitute for 2 of the 10
years experience required.
Salary Range: $3.886/m o-$5.201/m o (salary ceiling)

recruitm ent w ill be used to fill one vacancy in St. Paul.
The Forest M anagem ent Specialist 1 - Seed Orchard Specialist -
prepares plans for controlled cross-breeding and supplem ental
mass pollination program s; uses and directs others on sophis­
ticated pollen quality m onitoring and processing equipm ent;
acts as leadw orker in surveys, insect and conelet counts within
the population orchards; operates equipm ent to perform discing,
land leveling, fertilizing, m owing, pesticide application and field
survey; and assists in the developm ent and m aintenance of
com puterized records pertaining to cross breeding and pollina­
tion program s.
Q ualifications are: a Bachelor's degree in Forestry or related field
such as Biology, Botany, or Plant Pathology; OR three years
experience in any of the following areas: Tree breeding, tree
im provem ent, flow er and conelet count, insect and disease
surveys or orchard m anagem ent.
