Equal Protection
Under The Law
For Fathers
SAFEWAY
There was a demonstration/piek-
etingoutside of the Multnomah County
Courthouse on Wednesday, 16 June
1993
The purpose of this demonstra
tion was to bring some awareness,
prior to Father’s Day, that there are
nany father’s who love their children
tni, are being denied “equal protec
tion" under the law to exercise their
light to share that love and their right
io “raise a family” (268 U.S. 390 at
*99). In our opinion, we collectively
agree that the courts have exercised
not only bad judgm ent in domestic
problems such as divorce but they
liscnm inate against non custodial
parents-m ost of whom are fath ers-
but this sort of discrimination is not
monopolized by fathers alone. Wives
f2ndfam ilicsandevenan increasing
.umber of women are beginning to
experience the injustice of being
■ row n into the role of 2nd class. W e
líese also that the nature of the
domestic relations court in Oregon is
adversarial and one that promotes
conflict between divorcing spouses
which ultimately victimizes the chil
dren m div oiec. (Jur goal is tebring an
end to tins al’u s t!

changes will also be present. If you
