C hief Justice W allace P. Carson, Jr. o f the Oregon Supreme Court appointed the 17 member group to exam ine com ­ plaints about disparities in sentencing, security releases, interpreter adequacy and the charging process, among other issues. The first hearing was held in Wood- bum on July 28th. Public hearings fol­ lowed in Pendleton and Ontario on September 28th and 29th. Hearings have also been scheduled for Klamath Falls and Warm Springs on O ctober 26th and 27th. The final hearing will be held in Salem, with November 19th as the tentative date, pending selection o f a m eeting place. Young, Jr. Education & Cultural Center is offering a series of free review sessions for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), the standard apti­ tude test taken by high school students interested in attending college. The ses­ sions take place Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. at the Center, located at 10 North Russell Street. The sessions are designed to help high school sophomores, juniors and seniors prepare for SAT exams offered in N ovem ber, January and M arch. “ Many students do poorly on their SAT exam simply because they are unfam il­ iar with the form at,” said Urban League Education & Career Development Di­ rector Herman L.
