Contractor to Assist Minorities, Women and
Disadvantaged Individuals to obtain On-the-Job
Training on Transportation Construction Projects
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)
seeks qualified organizations to subm it proposals on providing
assistance to minorities, women and disadvantaged individuals
to obtain On-the-Job Training in the highway construction indus­
try.
Interested organizations must contact either Mr. Herminio Vargas
Jr. or Ms. Eileen Gutrich at (206) 753-0322 between 8:30 a.m.
and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to obtain a Request for
Proposal (RFP). Responses to the RFP must be received no
later than 5:00 p.m. on October 23, 1992. Each proposal must
be prepared to meet the requirements identified in the Request
for Proposal. There have been no m inority and/or woman
business enterprise goals established for this contract. How­
ever, minority and/or woman owned businesses are encouraged
to apply.
The W SDOT assumes no obligation of any kind for expenses
incurred by any respondent to this solicitation.

Fire Sprinkler Upgrade
Sealed bids for the Terminal 1, Berth 103, Fire Sprinkler
Upgrade, will be received at the office of the Manager, Con­
tracts and Procurement, of The Port of Portland, 700 N. E.
Multnomah Street, 15th floor, Portland, Oregon, (mailing ad­
dress: Post Office Box 3529, Portland, Oregon, 97208) until,
but not after, 2 p.m. Thursday, October 22,1992, and thereaf­
ter publicly opened and read.
Description of Work:
Design and install new under-wharf fire sprinkling systems,
including removal of existing piping and sprinklers as specified,
removal of four existing dry valves, and replacing with new
systems. Reuse existing Honeywell monitoring system.
A prebid conference will be held on Tuesday, October 13,
1992, at 10 a.m. at Terminal 1,2200 NW Front (NW 21st and
NW Front), Portland, Oregon, 97210. The prebid conference
will be held in the lunchroom at the south end (near Front
Street) of Warehouse 103 to discuss all phases of the work.

Bids must be on the bid form which will be provided to
prospective bidders and must be accompanied by a certified or
cashier's check drawn on a United States bank or a bid bond
payable to The Port of Portland in an amount equal to at least
10 percent of the total amount bid.
Bidders are required to prequalify in the following category:
Fire Sprinkler Systems
Prequalification applications must be submitted not later than
5 business days prior to the bid opening date.
The drawings and the contract manual may be examined at
Port offices. Copies may be obtained by prospective bidders at
no cost from Contracts and Procurement (address above).
No bid will be received or considered unless it contains a
statement by the bidder as a part of the bid that the provisions
of ORS 279.350 (regarding prevailing wage rates) are to be
complied with.
No bid will be received or considered unless the bidder is
registered with the State of Oregon Construction Contractors
Board, pursuant to ORS 701.055 (1), prior to submitting a bid.

A license for asbestos work under ORS 468A.720 is not
required for this work.
Bidders are required to state whether or not the bidder is a
