RELIGION
Julie Skidmore, age 18, a member
o f the Portland Boys & G irls Clubs, has
been selected as one o f five finalists in
Boys & Girls Club o f Am erica’s 1992-
93 National Youth o f the Year program,
sponsored by Reader’ s Digest Associa­
tion, Inc.
A recent graduate o f W ilson High
School, Skidmore w ill represent the
Pacific Region at the national finals to
be held in Washington, D.C., Septem­
ber 21-23. The National Youth o f the
Year w ill be installed by President Bush,
honorary chairman o f Boys & Girls
Clubs o f America, at a W hite House
Ceremony on September 23.
Skidmore has been a member o f
the Sellwood-Moreland Boys & Girls
Club, a unit o f the Portland Boys &
G irls Club, for two years and serves as
a leader and role model for fellow Club

The Ahmadiyya M uslim Commu­
nity o f Portland w ill open the Portland
Rizwan Mosque to the general public
on Saturday and Sunday, August 29 &
30,1992 from 10:00 A. M. to 6:00 P.M .,
to provide an opportunity for the v is i­
tors to gain firsthand information about
the religion o f Islam and its teachings
regarding contemporary problems.
The Open House w ill feature Is­
lamic literature and books including
the H oly Quran translations in more
than thirty languages. Special empha­
sis w ill be placed on the current social
issues and religious topics such as
Muhammad {Peace be upon him) in the
Bible, Jesus {Peace be upon him) in
Islam, Women in Islam, etc. Members
o f the Muslim Community w ill be avail­
able to answer any questions. Free
literature w ill also be available. Re­
freshments w ill be served.
The Ahm adiyya Movement in Is-
-• lam is an embodiment o f true and real
Islam. Itscckstounitcm ankind with its
creator to establish peace throughout
the world. It was founded in 1889 by
Hazrat M itza Ghulam Ahm ed, o f
Qadian, India, Promised Messiah and
Reformer o f the present age. The
Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam is now
established in more than 125 countries
o f the world.

Drive, the Rose Festival and the O r­
egon Museum o f Science and Industry.
W hile at W ilson High, Skidmore
was involved in the key club and the
student council. She also served as a
mentor for incom ing freshman and was
featured in “ W h o ’ s W ho Am ong
American High School Students.”
