Scripture o f the ‘Week*
St. John Chapter 4
Ladies Society Spreads
Happiness In Sunday Picnic
BY MATTIE ANN CALLIER-SPEARS
“ How beautiful upon die moun
tains are the feet o f him that bringeth
good tidings, that publishcth peace;
that bringeth good tidings o f good, that
publishcth salvation; that saith unto
Zion, Thy God reigneth.” [Isaiah 52:7]
KJV
Throughout the Scripture, the Lord
God A lm igh ty speaks to His people by
using sim plistic dialogue or in parables;
as spoken by Jesus the Christ.
When we look at the human body
and analyze and identify each part (ei
ther seen or unseen), each piece has its
owncharacterand function: even though
some may be similar; but, different and
unique.
As we look at our hands, God has
given us appendages which are called
“ fingers” . These fingers arc a subordi
nate part o f the hand. Even though
several o f them may appear to be alike,
they are different and have different
functions. Some are tall and some short,
some are skinny and some are fat. And
-V then there is the thumb. W hile the
tmumb is not classified as a finger, it is
«¿11 an appendage.
Each finger and thumb is covered
with layers o f skin and beneath the skin
js an intricate network o f blood vessels,
Serves, and muscles a ll stretched out
’ nd/or entwined over bones: each a-
part-oforaw hole inch longer or shorter
than the other. Yet...each appendage
has its own separate identity and sepa
rate function form the greater part o f the
hand known as the “ paw” —in laymen’s
terms. Yet-each separate function and
each separate compartment is w orking
together to successfully complete any
task set before it.
We, as Christian Believers, can be
compared to the structure o f the hand.
There are many members. Some may
resemble and/or may have sim ilar func
tions; but, are decidedly different. Some
have different color skin or different
hair, shoe sizes or may come from
different backgrounds or different eye
colors or shapes. Y e t-a s Christian Be
lievers, we are part o f the same struc
ture. The same body. The body o f Christ.
So—don’ t think too highly o f your
selves.
As Paul spoke in the book o f ro
mans, chapter twelve and verses 3-5:
“ For I say, through the grace given
unto me, to every man that is among
you, not to think o f him self more highly
than he ought to think; but to think
soberly, according as God hath dealt to
every man the measure o f faith.
For as we have many members in
one body, and all members have not the
same office:
So we, being many, are one body in
Christ, and every one members one o f
another.”
God created us w ith different per
sonalities and appearances. Hecertainly
knew' what He was doing; because,
when he had completed His task o f
creation, he said, “ ...And behold, it was
very good.” [Genesis 1:31]

In theexamination o f the hand, it is
quite apparent that the hand cannot
function without the rest o f the body.
T ie hand and its parts are only parts o f
the greater part which is the body.
Though this may seem insignificant to
some, we must view this illustration as
one which should greatly impact the
awarenesses o f all Christian Believers.
We, Christian Believers, are (all)
members o f the same body; which is the
body o f Christ Jesus.
Each body-part has its own func
tion. Each function is identified and is
an integral pan o f the whole.
I cannot function w ithout you and
you cannot function w ithout me. We
must work together. As the Scripture
says, each member does not have the
same office (or duties). God certainly
knew what he was doing because... i f
we each had the same, identical duties,
we would soon get very tired o f one
another.
There are Christian Believers o f all
colors, races, sizes and shapes; liv in g in
different locations; having different
names; working on different jobs. But-
-we are all one in the Spirit and one in
the Lord working toward a common
goal. That goal is to save the lost (sin
ners) and get the w orld ready to receive
the Coming King-Jesus Christ. Each
Believer has Christ nestled w ithin his/
her bosom. Deep down in your soul.
When we look at the hand w ith our
physical eyes, wc can see the skin cov
ering the outside and the nails. These
components o f the hand are important
but they do not make up the hand in its
entirety. There are other parts which
cannot be seen but they are all hard at
work making the hand functional and
they are equally as important as those
parts which arc visible..
When God was designing the
blueprint fo r the human body, there
was an order and a purpose. So shall it
be also w ith the Body o f Christ.
Some parts o f the Body o f Christ
(Believers) are very visible while other
parts are not seen but are hard at work
making it possible for visible parts to
maneuver and function properly.
Just suppose there were no nerves
in the hand.
Then, the hand could not move.
You see, the hand needs the nerves
which receives impulses or signals
from the brain to tell the muscles what
to do. Therefore, the hand would not
be functional because it was not com
plete.
just like the physical body cannot
function unless all its parts are coop
erating and operating as a u nit-the
same goes for the Christian Body o f
Believers. God, in his infinite w is
dom, has created an “ order” w ithin
ana for everything.
Christian sister and brothers...we
should be hard at work making the
Body o f Christ functional. Making it
real and making it visible to the world.
But-guess what? We must do it to
gether.
