Plans are currently being made fo r
a Chaka Khan summer tour in the United
States while her Japanese tour is play­
ing to sold-out audiences.
The I.A .A .A .M . is a non-profit
organization created to preserve and
promote African-Am erican music.

Spike Lee, John Singleton And Wesley
Snipes," movie critics Gene Siskel and
Roger Ebert address a subject straight
out o f today’ s headlines: media images
o f A frican Americans.
W hoopi Goldberg, Spike Lee, John
Singleton and Wesley Snipes jo in their
hosts fo r a critica l look at where A frican
americans are in the movies today, as
w ell as what lies ahead. The special w ill
air on stations across the country June
5-21 (check local listings fo r date and
time).
A t the fabled Cannes F ilm Festi­
val, Roger Ebert catches up w ith actress
W hoopi Goldberg and director Spike
Lee. An Oscar-winner fo r “ Ghost,”
Goldberg stars in the soon-to-be re­
leased film version o f the Broadway hit
musical “ Sarafina! ’ which recently took
her to South Africa. She is one o f the
few A frica n American actresses ac­
knowledged as a m ajor box-office star
and knows firsthand the d iffic u lty black
women have making their mark in H o l­
lywood.
No stranger to controversy, Lee,
director o f the acclaimed “ Do the R ight
T hing” and “ J ungle Fever,” is currently
editing “ M alcolm X ,” his epic biogra­
phy o f M alcolm X , and one o f the first
film s ever to have a black hero as its
central character.
In Los Angeles, Gene Siskel talks
to actor Wesley Snipes and director
John Single’on. snipes, star o f such
film s as the recently released “ W hite
Men Can’ t Jump,” “ New Jack C ity "
and Lee’ s “ Jungle Fever,” is one o f the
fastest-rising A frican Am erican actors
today. C ritics and audiences agree that
his performances have made him a
powerful screen presence.
Singleton, who made his directo­
rial debut w ith the acclaimed film
“ Boyz *N ’ the Hood,” is the first A f r i­
can Am erican to be nominated fo r a
Best D irector Oscar as w ell as the
youngest nominee in that category. A
native o f Los Angeles, he speaks about
the recent events on his home turf,
offering his perspective on the crisis
