Bro. Coleman was added to the
body o f Christ in 1976, under the teach­
ing o f Evangelist Joe 0 . Pitts, Sr. serv­
ing the 13 th Avenue Church of Christ in
O akland, CA. C harles’ mem bership
rem ained at 13th Avenue for ten years,
during which time he began preaching

Mother’s Day At
The Grotto
M other’s Day will be celebrated
with a special Mass honoring the Moth­
ers of the Year at 12 noon on Sunday,
May 10th at The Grotto, The National
Sanctuary o f O ur Sorrowful Mother.
The past and current O regon Mothers of
the Year, as selected by The Oregon
Association o f American M others, will
be honored at the end o f the noon Mass,
which will be held outdoors w eather
permitting.
M other’s Day is always a special
day at The Grotto, which is dedicated to
Mary, the mother o f Jesus. W ith the
gardens in full spring bloom , The
G rotto’s staff invites people o f every
faith an d n a tio n a lity to v isit the
sanctuary’s peaceful gardens on this
special day honoring all mothers.
M other’s Day Mass will also be
celebrated at 10:00 a.m . in The G rotto’s
Chapel of Mary. For further informa­

Bro. Coleman has served the church
by way of teaching classes, home stud­
ies and Sunday School. He has preached
in various congregations throughout the
Bay Area and outside, including South­
ern C alifornia and in Illinois. Bro.
Coleman also worked alongside Bro.
T.O. Jackson of O klahom a in the E van­
gelism department for the 1985 San
Francisco Crusade for Christ.
Bro. Colem an later placed m em ­
bership at the Church o f C hrist at
M acDonald Avenue in Richmond, CA
where he served as m inister of Personal
Evangelism and Care Group Director
for four years alongside Evangelist’s
J.C. Thom as Jr. and Rolland Jackson.
On S e p te m b e r 30, 1990 B ro.
Coleman becam e the Evangelist of the
Diane Avenue Church of Christ in the
City of Pittsburg, CA. There under his
direction the following program s have
been set up: a Substance Abuse Pro­
gram , Literacy Program , Child Abuse
Awareness Program , and a local net­
work television program entitled“Righ-
teousness Exalts a Nation. This pro­
gram is aired weekly and can be viewed
in P ittsb u rg , W e st P ittsb u rg , and
Antioch, California.
