Hammer To Host 19th Annual “American Music Awards”
Special Airing On ABC-TV, Monday, January 27

19th annual “ American Music Awards,”
airing on the ABC -Television Network

sex” campaign geared towards young
m inorities.
Statistics show that o f the 12,607
adult/adolescent females with AIDS 52%
are black and 20% are hispanic. In
addition, over one fifth o f people in ­
fected w ith A ID S are in their twenties.
Knowing the incubation period between
H IV infection and the onset o f symp­
toms is seven to ten years, most o f these
people contracted H IV as teenagers.
There has been a 50% increase in the
AIDS rate for 13-19 years olds between
1988-90.
The campaign has a hotline (1-
800448-2007) where young people can
call in and receive a “ safe sex” mes­
sage from Readhead. A dditionally, a
national m ailing w ill be directed to­
wards radio stations, retail outlets, media
centers and large urban locales. The
packet w ill consist o f educational lit­
erature on “ safe sex” behavior, in fo r­
mation on A ID S in Am erica, a con­
dom, and in keeping w ith the theme o f
restraint, a cassette single or “ Nice &
Slow ” from Redhead’s latest album.

from data supplied by the music indus­
try trade publication, Radio & Records,
and the SoundScan Inc., management
information system. Results o f the vot­
ing, tabulated by the K P M G Peat M ar­
w ick accounting firm , are kept secret
until envelopes are opened during the
presentation ceremonies.
"Roots," the highest-rated mini-series of all time, will air on The Family
Channel at 8:00 p.m. Eastern/Pacific for six nights beginning Jan. 20,
1992. This will be the first national airing of this monumental drama since
1977. It also will air nightly at 11:30 p.m. Jan.20-25.
