Spec Peter Ft. Davis deftly wields the controls of a military Small
Equipment Excavator (SEE) while digging a foundation footing trench for
a building in the Camp Guernsey, Wyoming, training area. Davis, a 1981
John Adams High School graduate of Portland, spent the first two weeks
of August on annual training with his Oregon Army National Guard unit,
the 442nd Engineer Detachment. The unit, based at Camp Rilea on the
coast near Astoria, traded training sites with a Wyoming engineer unit-
Davis, who is described by his sergeant as their best operator of the SEE,
studied heavy equipment operations with Superior Training Services five
years ago and then went on for more training by joining the Guard.

Our art is all about a sense of
community, a sense o f family and a
sense o f love. We are not trying to roll
back history. Our goal is to manage
time and events right now, as they
impact and shape the educational,
employment, and spiritual future of our
youth.
We are where we are...a step
forward...a change, no matter how
slight... a re-direction with a purpose is
all about literature and art. Think about
it. Make the difference. Make things
better...we can do it together!
