When Evelyn D’Almeida of Lome,
Togo and Russell Graham Jr. ex
changed wedding vows recently at the
First Presbyterian Church in down
town Portland, the bride said the vows
in French, the language in which she is
most fluent.
The bride was escorted down the
aisle by Dr. Alvin Graham who stood
by to give her hand to his son waiting
at the altar. The bride’s ante-bellum
styled gown was of brocaded white
cotton with fitted wrist-length sleeves.
Her headdress was a short veiling of
tulle accented with orchids. She car
ried a mixed bouquet of lilies and
roses, and wore a single strand of pearls
at her throat.
Vows were heard by the Rev. Wil
liam Creavey and were witnessed by
about 200 quests invited by Dr. and
Mrs. Alvin Graham. Carlos Graham
acted as best man for his brother.
Lighting altar candles at the after
noon ceremony were bridesmaids Jen
nifer Bales of Portland, Jennifer Gra
ham, a cousin of the bridegroom from
Fayton, Ohio, and Dr. Courtney Gra
ham, sister to the bridegroom. The
bridesmaids wore pretty summer dresses
of sheer (Towered fabric and brimmed

dining room. Many ate outside on the
deck or took a table set up under a huge
white-canopied tent in the gardens.
African drums and live music by an
African troupe entertained during the
late afternoon.
Out of town guests included Mrs.
Dorothea Melvin of Baltimore, grand
mother of the bridegroom, and Eric
Clinksdale of Dayton, Ohio.
Honeymoon for the newlyweds
will be travel to other parts of the
United States to acquaint the bride
with her new country. The couple met
in Togo during a Europe and Africa
tour by Russell Graham, a violinist and
composer. He is a graduate of the
Berklee School of Music in Boston
and is a teacher of classical, popular or
jazz styles of music. After the honey
