Community Talent Back NPBC Effort
On Saturday, March 2, 1991,
at 7:00 p jn ., at Maranatha Church, North
Portland Bible College (N P BC ) w ill
hold its 1st Annual Gospel M usic Cele
bration to benefit its building and cam
pus fund. The Inspirational Sounds, a
com m unity choir hailing from Eugene
and led by Brother John Gainer, w ill
headline the event, w ith selec tions from
th eir finest offerings. Soloists w ill in
clude Sister M attie Ann Callier-Spears,
and Brother Dan Johnson, a highway
patrolman. The M t. O live t Men's Cho
rus w ill belt out old-tim e gospel sounds
, under the leadership o f Brother Ro
land Harris, an accomplished vocalist
in his own right. A very fine example o f
young Christian women from Maranatha
Church, entitled "H is Song,” w ill w ow
us w ith their dedicating to the L ord an
music. A Fellow ship mass choir, con
sisting o f members from M t. Sinai, M r.
G illard, Macedonia, Antioch M ission
ary and Union Avenue Baptist Churches
w ill provide the finale.
The administration, instructors,
students, and board members, alike, o f
NPBC are extrem ely enthusiastic about
the prospect o f the B ib le College hav
ing "a place o f our ow n." Housed in
Maranatha's basement from its incep
tion in 1982 u n til the fa ll o f 1990, when
it m oved to Berean Baptist's basement,
the B ible College has been blessed by
the hospitality o f both bodies. H ow
ever, as NPBC proceeds further into
equipping and in the com m unity, it has
MT OLIVET BAPTIST
CHURCH
become increasingly clear that there
are urgent opportunities fo r m inistries
w ith in the com m unity that the Bible
College could explore, given its own
fa cility. Thus far, over 300 students
from over 30 churches have benefited
from courses offered at NPBC. The
Bible College looks forw ard to m aking
its e lf available to an even w ider seg
ment o f the population w ith the conven
ience and space a campus o f its own
w ould afford. Support from the greater
com m unity is needed in the e ffo rt to
acquire a permanent campus. NPBC
does not have a high p ro fit margin,
because it charges o nly $ 10 fo r registra
tion and $23 fo r each class in order to
make Bible-based learning more a f
fordable to its constituency. The clos
est Bible College in terms o f conven
ience to the com m unity is located on
N E 84th and Glisan. It is a very fine
school, but most individuals in our
com m unity cannot afford its fees.
Another im portant fact about NPBC is
that it offers classes, fo r the most part,
during evening hours so that w orking
students m ight participate.
NPBC asks that you come on
out and support them and our com m u
n ity talent w ith your participation in the
Gospel M usic Celebration. Tickets are
available fo r a $6.30 advance donation,
w ith children under 10 admitted free.
T o obtain tickets, o r fo r additional in
form ation, please contact the Bible
College at 288-2919, or Cora W illiam s,
at 284-6094.
