C hildren-obey yourparents; this
is the right thing to do because God has
placed them in authority over you. Honor
your father and mother. This is the first
of G od’s Ten Commandments that ends
with a promise. And this is the promise:
that if your honor your father and mother,
yours will be a long life, full o f bless
ings.
Parents--don’t keep on scolding
and nagging your children .m aking them
angry and resentful. Rather, bring them
up with the loving discipline the Lord
him self approves, wit suggestions and
godly advice.
Pray all the time. Ask God for
anything in line with the Holy Spirit’s
wishes. Plead with him, reminding him
of your needs, and keep praying ear
nestly for all Christians everywhere.

Announcing the retirement o f Fa
ther M. Ramsey Schadewitz.
Father Schadewitz, a native O rego
nian, was born in the City o f Moro in
eastern O regon. He obtained a B. A. from
the University o f Oregon in 1951 and
graduated from die Church Divinity school
of The Pacific in Berkeley in 1955. He
served as priest and deacon under Bishop
Dagwell in 1954 and his first assignment
was at Holy Innocence Church in Corte
Madera, California, where he served as
curate. A fter a number of assignments
throughout W ashington and Oregon he
came to St. Philip’s in 1982 where he has
served the past 8 years.
A dinner will be held in honor of
Father Schadewitz at St. Philip’s on
D ecember 29, 1990 at 5:00 p.m.
He has been a major contributor not
only to St. Philip’s but also to the com
munity with his outreach work. Father
Schadewitz was instrumental in assist
ing the start-up of the “ Saturday School”
by offering St. Philip’s Parish Hall as the
location. Many in the community have
benefited from his outreach work, as he
has given generously to those in need.
Father Schadewitz will officially
retire December 31, 1990. St. Philip’s
hopes you will join them in wishing him
good luck in all his future endeavors.
In the December 1987 edition of
TOTALLY GOSPEL, Special Edition,
the group Commissioned was featured in
an article entitled ‘ ‘On the Road A gain” .
The group was described as - smooth,
anointed, and energetic, as being just a
few adjectives describing them. This self
contained group of six soldiers working
for the Lord is fast becoming one o f the
hottest gospel music entities.
Gospel Music has had to knock heads
with it’s rival, secular music. It seems as
though the groups promoted through secu
lar music arc received with welcome
arms, even those with not so nice back
grounds; such as the rap group with the
lew d lyrics and gestures. But - a group
such as Commissioned, w ho’s dedicat
ing their talents to lifting the Holy Name
of Jesus, have received opposition, de
nial and ‘‘..Sorry but we c a n ’t afford to
pay for them to appear.” If it were M i
chael Jackson, Kids on the Block or M a
donna, people would be flocking to the
ticket offices and would be willing to
pay prices as high as S I50 per ticket, if
need be.
Many “ Thanks!” to Canaan Pro
ductions, a Tacom a based production
company, lor sponsoring Commissioned,

ing Fred williams, one o f the members of
Commissioned, “ ...Come! Hang-out with
us. W e’re in this to lil t up Jesus and not
ourselves. You have to constantly fast,
pray, read the Bible, and stay in church.
Flesh is our biggest enemy. You must
pray, deny self, and stay humble. T hat’s
the only way you’re going to last.”
COM M ISSIONED will appear at
One Stop R ecords on N ortheast
Killingsworth and 16th Avenue on Fri
day, December 21,1990 from 11 am to 1
pm. Come out and get your album signed,
to shake hands or just to ask questions.
Tim Smith, a writer for Totally
Gospel, concluded his article by saying -
“ D edication, a humble spirit, and com
mitment are just three of the many ingre
dients making up a successful gospel art
ist. Commissioned incorporates these traits
and many more. They have truly been
Commissioned to spread the gospel of
Jesus Christ in the simplicity of a song.”
Give the gift o f music! Come! Be in
spired by the testimonies of these young
men whose lives through Jesus Christ
have been - Commissioned.
