A native of Salt Lake City, Utah,
Donald Bankhead Jr., came to Portland
in 1980. He enjoyed the people and the
potential prospects for business here.
The transition from Utah to the Rose
City wasn’t a difficult choice for him.
Donald Bankhead, Dan Fouse, Art Tho­
mas and Sarah Moran are co-owners of
Locals Only a record store that caters to
N/W artists focusing on Rock, R&B,
Gospel, Christian, Funk and Raggae
music. Locals Only has two locations:
Beaverton on Farmington Rd. and down­
town Portland on 2nd at the New Market
Village. Mr Bankheads’ feelings are to
give local artists the opportunity to get
more exposure through Locals Only. This
Friday The Calvin Walker Band will be
performing live in the mall at 7:00 pm.
The Portland Observer supports Donald

IS LOOKING
FOR A FEW
GOOD MEN
Portland Opera has immediate open­
ings for 12 young, well-built men who
arc interested in taking part in the excit­
ing world of opera production. These
volunteer supernumerary roles require
no previous stage experience and offer
the chance to share in the comraderie of
cast and crew in the opera’s upcoming
production of Richard Strauss’s Salome
on the Portland Civic Auditorium stage
(November 10,14, and 17).
Volunteers for these non-speaking,
non-singing roles should be between the
ages of 18 and 35, be physically well
built and willing to participate in 10
evening rehearsals and three evening
performances between October 27 and
November 17, 1990.
Interested men should plan on at­
tending an introductory meeting at the
Portland Opera office (1516 SW Alder,
Portland) on Sunday, October 14, from
3-5:00 PM. More information can be
obtained by calling the Opera office at
