B a rry is no hero to me fo r w h a t he
has avoided as a drug abuser. I thought
that he should have frie d and spent a long
tim e in ja il.
There is a b ig d iffe re n ce
betw een racism in A m e ric a and o ve rt
drug abuse. Sending B a rry to ja il w o u ld
have fo rw a rd e d a strong message to the
streets and to the drug dealers/abusers
that the “ w ar on d ru g s” is real. “ D o w n

and talked n e g a tive ly about h im on the

has been done in the dark to lig h t. The
lig h t is now on M a y o r M a rio n B arry,
w h o has successfully com pleted drug
rehabilitation and confesses to being clean
(o v e r 250 dyas). It is m y w ish that he
stays clean and sober. Maybe then, through

c ity c o u n c il m em ber?), he w ill earn the
rig h t to be ca lle d a role m odel/hero. He
has been branded. B a rry m ust re-gain
the respect o f W ash in g to n , D .C ., b lack
people in A m e ric a , and m ore im p o r­
ta n tly , establish respect fo r his fa m ily
and self.
