The Church of Scientology has launched city, state and nation-wide campaigns, such as Lead the Way to a Drug Free USA, donated educational materials to li braries, given lectures to hundreds of thousands of parents and children, and spearheaded many other programs. Scientologists have gotten more than 100,000 people off drugs. In large part because of these ac tivities, there is growing evidence that the public are recognizing that relig ions have an important role in society. In what the Los angeles Times called " a new chapter in its history, one that has attracted a new generation of supporters,” spiritual leaders of other religions are launching programs that cut through bureaucratic red tape and maintenance programs that don’t work, with fresh new approaches. to one another and ATHEA COLBERT AND become united as one MAURY A.
