e xte n sio n o f the deadline fo r fo rm a l
a d m issio n to the U n iv e rs ity this fa ll from
J u ly 1 to A u g u s t 1 and, in a d d ition , is
vance re g is tra tio n fo r non-adm itted stu­
dents, T h a t means prospective students
have an a d d itio n a l m onth to a p p ly fo r
a d m issio n to P SU and, even p rio r to the
g ra n tin g o f a d m issio n , they can register
fo r fa ll classes.

e n ro llm e n t by nearly 1,200 students(7.4
percent).
“ R e m o va l o f the e n ro llm e n t lid at

e d u ca tio n needs o f the state’ s p o p u la ­
tio n cen te r.L a st year we were forced to
tu rn students aw ay. T hat w ill not happen
th is ye a r,” he said.

d e cisio n , the U n iv e rs ity has taken the
step o f exte n d in g its adm issions dead­
lin e fo r a m onth as w e ll as re la xin g
re strictio n s on advance registration, also
im posed as part o f last ye a r’ s mandated
plan to reduce e n ro llm e n t

According to Kathleen Larson, M a r­
keting and C o m m u n ica tio n s d ire cto r at
A m e rica n Red Cross, “ The sum m er
cam paign serves as a rem inder to donors
that patients need another chance at life
a ll year-round. Donated b lood and blo o d
products p ro vid e that chance.”
Larson feels that the advertisem ents
w ill ca ll donors to action. She says,
“ The ads are in s p irin g and m o tiva tio n a l.
W e are g ra te fu l to a ll o f the businesses
and in d iv id u a ls that made th is sum m er­
tim e v is ib ility p o ssib le .”
The cam paign was com pleted Ju ly
5th, and w ill run through L a b o r D ay.

In 1984 on a prison yard in
w ho p rovided a house located at 5003
N E 13th. The House o f E xodus, a
Salem, O regon, a devine message was
given to D onald M c M illa n and w ith
much-needed program that was created
by his w ife Rosie B oothe w ho nurtured
that message a devine m ission to estab­
lish a haven where men released from
prison w o u ld n ’ t be subjected to re tu rn ­
ing to the co m m u n ity w ith o u t housing,
food, su p p o rt
W ith a h a n d fu l o f men w h o
recognized the dream , the articles fo r
in co rp o ra tio n were developed fo r crea­
tio n o f the n o n -p ro fit self-help group
the idea that treatm ent should be p ro ­
vided fo r those w h o sought help. Need­
less to say M s. Boothe died o f cancer
and the fu ll pote n tia l o f her dream w ent
in to dorm ancy, u n til Don M c M illa n
and T o m Boothe re -a ffirm e d that b e lie f

D on M c M illa n and Rosie
Boothe are s im ila r in the respect that
they both dreamed and they both shared
the pain o f life -th re a te n in g cancer. G od
gave them the message, i t was there

D o n ’ s m ission was clear: he
was to establish a base o f support that
w o u ld bridge and interconnect a ll other
services already existing, bring together
fa ctio n s o f the co m m u n ity that in times
d ivin e m ission to d e liv e r it and o n ly
that. In 1986 D on M c M illa n died o f
prostrate cancer, his m ission completed.
He handpicked M r. H erbert B ro w n and
Thomas M ason to m anifest the dream
past fe lt no p ro fit o r interest existed fo r
men often called career crim in a ls,
undesirables in the future o f this co m ­
m u n ity o r any c o m m u n ity. I t was his
dream to “ m a n u fa ctu re ” role models
fo r the yo u th o f the c o m m u n ity from
these same in d iv id u a ls to u tiliz e as
exam ples fo r the yo u th o f the com m u­
n ity , against gangs and drugs, but tim e
was ru n n in g o u t fo r Don.
