NPBC CELEBRATION
On June 15,1990, North Portland Bible (NPBC) held its eight annual Cele
bration of Achievement, “ Overflowing with Thankfulness” , hosted by Antioch
Missionary Baptist Church. NPBC came into being in 1982, when a group of
individuals responded to the need for low-cost, convenient Biblical instruction for
community residents. Since its inception, over 300 individuals from over 30 com
munity churches have benefited from the offerings of the Bible College. In turn,
those students have shared their knowledge with their fellow church members and
scores of others. The Celebration of Achievement is a means of recognizing
students who have completed a sequence or course of study.
Students receiving recognition at the Celebration were: Princess Bailey, Cora Jean
Boswell, Earnestine Cellestine, Rev. Charles Collins, Rev. Percy Davis, James
Hall, Audrey Henry, Willie Ranson, Rita Redeau, Oscar Vilches, Cora Williams,
Normal Williams, and Fred Wilson.
This occasion provided and excellent opportunity for NPBC to honor outgoing
Board Chair, Rev. Aaron Hamlin, who has chaired the Board since the death of
NPBC’s first Board Chair, the late Rev. John W. Garlington, II. It was also a time
to introduce the new Board Chair, Rev. Donald Frazier, pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist
Church. Rev. Frazier exhorted those assembled to become fellow workers, along
with the clergy, in winning souls for the Kingdom of God.
It was with great joy, that Rev. Frazier announced the progress of NPBC in locating
its own facility. Final negotiations are underway for property. Up to this point,
Maranatha Church has graciously permitted NPBC office space and classrooms in
its building. In response to the accelerated financial needs of NPBC,a series of
fundraising events will take place within the community over the next few months.
A Summer Tea is being planned by Friends of NPBC. September will bring a Gospel
Music Concert, showcasing the talents of local soloists, groups and choirs. On
November 2, NPBC will hold its second annual Fall Banquet and Rally

A Silence
A man acts as an infinite
being
He ladens his wisdom to help
the infidel
A silence that is never spoken
in his mystery.
Reaching out not rejecting es
sence.
Beyond believing in myths
lies the truth.
Silence is where silence was
No one knows better than
man the way out o f eternity,
And asking is not life or death
But a way to claim the for
gotten
Even though nothing was
boughten.
