here’ s w h a t I learned fro m com paring
n u tritio n labels and ta lk in g to doctors
and nurses (since I d o n ’ t have any c h il­
dren, and have tim e to m ill around in
stores and c a ll hospitals!).
F irs tly , som ething that re a lly
surprised me was that m ost o f the doc­
tors and nurses I talked to fo llo w the age-
o ld tra d itio n o f feeding th e ir ch ild re n
eggs fo r b re a kfa st I ’ ve been reading
la te ly that ch o le stro l is not as bad as
everyone seems once to have thought.
T h is m ig h t account fo r eggs’ s lo w ly
ris in g p o p u la rity in the last year o r so.
T h e y d o make a good m eat substitute,
w ith s im ila r p ro te in content yet less fat;
b u t, som ehow , any advertisem ent fo r
(w h ite has m any v ita m in s bleached out)

to be preferred o ve r hot; also, ch ild re n

the e xtent o f the p o s itiv e affects o f oat
bran has n o t yet been p roven). Steering
clear o f sugar is id e a l, b u t m ost youths
need a m id -w a y com prom ise: instead o f
their frosted flakes, instead o f your shred­
ded w heat, how about Cheerios? One
pediatrics hospital said that is w h a t they
feed th e ir patients, and the kid s d o n ’ t
co m p la in .
O f course, a ll doctors re co m ­
mended fru it, and some p ro f erred yo -
