On A p ril 21-23 in Hayden Lake,
Idaho, there w ill be a national gathering
o f W hite Supremacist/Neo-Nazi leaders
and Racist Skinheads to commemorate
the 100th birthday o f A d o lf H itler.
Citizens fo r N onviolent Action
Against Racism (C IN A A R ) has planned
a peaceful, nonviolent, counter-march
and ra lly to take place in nearby C o e r
d ’Alene, Idaho on A p ril 22nd. Marchers
w ill include concerned citizens, people
o f color, gays and lesbians, and other
groups targeted by Neo-Nazis.
The march w ill begin at 11:00 A M at
the comer o f highway 95 and Apple
W ay in C o e r d ’Alene. It w ill cover
seven miles. Participants may enter at
any point.
A rally and round-table discussion
fo r organizing o f future anti-Nazi events
w ill fo llo w .
As a further response to the beating
death in Portland o f Mulageta Seraw by
Racist Skinheads, a group has formed
to organize a Portland delegation to the
rally. Meetings are Mondays at 7:00

Teenage pregnancy, an emotional
and social stress! Where do I turn for
help? This dilemma is faced by thousands
o f teenagers and parents across our
country everyday. W ith the release o f
the Adult and Family Services Division’s
(A F S ’ ), “ A Guide to Adolescent
Pregnancy and Parenting Services,”
some o f the stress may be eased.
This new guide fo r adolescent
pregnancy and parenting services was
developed by Ben Talley and Ron
Bassett-Smith, AFS C hildren’s Agenda
Project Coordinators, w ith the help o f
the Volunteer Program S taff and AFS
Branch Managers throughout the state.
The firs t task was to develop a w ork
group w ith representatives from the
Student Retention Initiative (SRI), Health
D ivision, C hildren’ s Services D ivision,
Job Training Partnership A c t (JTPA),
Juvenile Services Commission, and the
Department o f Education. W orking
together, the com pletion o f the guide
became a reality.
Parents and their teenagers have a
source o f inform ation they can count on
when all types o f trouble hits home.
Teenagers w ill be able to seek help and
avoid the option many teenagers see as
their only option, such as, suicide, drugs,
or alcohol.
Basically, AFS has assembled a listing

The Western Baptist College library
has been awarded a 60-volume set o f
The Library o f Am erica, the series that
American Heritage magazine called ” lhe
most ambitious e ffo rt ever undertaken
to put the best o f American literature
into the hands o f the general reader.”
The Western Baptist College Library
is receiving the award after subm itting
an application to The Library o f America
and obtaining a pledge o f $250 from
Rev. and Mrs. J. Richard M uniz. The
Western Baptist library is one o f more
than 1400 across the country that have
already acquired this important collection
o f American literature w ith funds from
the Andrew W . M ellon Foundation and
matching funds pledged in their local
communities. For libraries an Oregon,
each $250 raised locally is being matched
by $250 from the Oregon Committee
fo r the Humanities and by $500 from
the M ellon Foundation.
The fa c ility and services o f the
Western Baptist College library are
available to Salem area residents without
charge. The College is located at 5000
Deer Park D rive SE, which is reached
by going south on Lancaster D rive u ntil
the firs t road to the right past the new
M arion County Correctional F acility.

underway at Red Cross for health
educators, nurses and teachers to teach
Preparation for Parenthood, an

A p ril 1,1989, The Portland Sickle C ell Anemia Foundation celebrated
their 5th Annual Gospel M usical Benefit at Maranatha Church, entitle
" B L O O D L IN E A W A R E N E S S T H R O U G H G O S P E L M U S IC
T R A N S F U S IO N ” , Dr. Richard Cohen o f Kaiser Permanente, spoke on
"W h a t is Sickle C ell Anem ia” fo r the benefit o f those unfam iliar w ith this
painful and deadly disease. Mrs. Chevonne Anerson brought the audience
to tears as she shared her own personal experiences o f coping w ith the
disease. Celebrities Phil and Brenda N icolar brought back jo y singing
electribying songs such as “ Can't nobody do me like Jesus” and Dedicated".
Humanitarian awards were presented to Danny Osborne, John Gainor o f the
Inspirational Sounds, o f Eugene, OR, Dolores Clark o f Psalms Master
G oldie Irby and Ken Berry, before an applauding crowd o f about 1000. This
inherited, life threatening disease o f the blood affects over 60,000 persons
in the United Stoles. Tax deductible donations may be sent to P.O. Bod

participants and contributors helping to raise $1100.

PCC Announces Retail Clerk Training
Classes
Portland Com m unity College w ill offer tw o classes this spring to prepare
people fo r entry-level jobs w ith department, chain and specialty stores.
The Retail Clerk Training Program w ill consist o f two 2-week sessions May
15 - 26 and June 12 - 23. Participants may attend m orning or afternoon
sessions fo r the 30 hours o f training.
Course w ork w ill include segments on customer relations, work ethic and
habits, communication with supervisors and co-workers, retail mathematics,
selling merchandise, inventory control and handling, getting a job and cash
register training.
Sandy’ s Camera Shops has donated two cash registers fo r use in the
program.
Cost w ill include S50 tuition and a $10 laboratory and materials fee.
Classes, lim ited to 20 students each, w ill be at the Job Opportunity Bank,
2710 NE 14th Ave. The training is open to anyone desiring to complete it.
HIGHWAY ATLAS AVAILABLE
The latest edition o f the Oregon Highway Atlas is now available,
according to the Oregon State Highway D ivision.
The48-page publication is packed fu ll o f inform ation for motorists using
Oregon’s roads and highways, according to Carol Mitchell, public information
o ffice r fo r the Highway D ivision.
“ The firs t atlas was really popular reprinted,” M itche ll said. “ W e ’ ve
updated it corrected a few things and added some new information. “
The atlas includes color photographs o f several state attractions plus
inform ation on m ajor historic sites, scenic drives beach access and major
recreation areas. Also included are detailed maps o f six state regions.
“ One thing that people w ill notice is some new photographs and better
looking photographs,” said M itche ll. “ The printing this time produced a
