NATIONAL NEWS UPDATE

Q. My husband had major surgery
recently and has to go to see his doctor
next week for a post-operative checkup.
I'm worried about his making the trip in
our car. M ill Medicare pay for an am
bulance from our house to the doctor's
office?
SISTE
A. No. Medicare’s medical insurance
does not pay for ambulance transporta
tion from your house to a doctor's office.
Under certain circumstances, medical in
surance w ill help pay for ambulance travel
from the scene o f an accident to a
hospital, from your house to a hospital
or skilled nursing facility, between
hospitals and skilled nursing facilities or
from a hospital or skilled nursing facili
ty to your house.
Q. I ’ve been getting SSI cheeks for the
past 4 years. Every year my Social Securi
ty office has me come in and fill out the
same papers with the same information.
Is all this really necessary ?
John E. Jacob, president of the National Urban League, (right), and John P.
Mascotte, Chairman, The Continental Corporation, review a copy of “ Career
Paths,” a new guide that lists business Internships and other educational
opportunities available to minority students nationwide.
A. Yes, it is. SSI is a program for
people who are 65 or over, blind, and
disabled and is based on need. To be sure
that you’re being paid correctly, your case
must be reviewed from time to time.
