1929 January 15: Martin Luther
King, Jr., is born in Atlanta, Geor­
gia. His mother is Alberta Christine
Williams King. His father is Rev.
Martin Luther King, Sr.
1948 February 25: King is ordained
to the Baptist ministry. June: King
graduates from Morehouse College
with a B.A. in sociology. S eptem ­
ber: King enters Crozer Theological
Seminary, Philadelphia, Pennsyl
vania. After hearing Dr. A.J. Muste
and Dr. Mordecai W. Johnson
preach on the life and teaching of
Mahatma Gandhi, he begins to
study Gandhi seriously.
1955 June 5: King receives a
Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from
Boston University. Novem ber 17:
Yolanda Denise, the Kings' first
child, is born.
December 1: In
Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks,
a forty two ye ir-old seamstress,
refuses to relinquish her bus seat
to a white man and is arrested
December 5: The first day of the
Montgomery bus boycott.
The
Montgomery Improvement Associ
ation is formed and Dr. King is
unanimously elected president of
the organization. December 10.
The Montgomery bus company sus­
pends service in black neighbor
hoods.
1951 June: King graduates from
Crozer with a Bachelor of Divinity.

ta Scott in Marion, Alabama.
1935-1944: King attends David
T. Howard Elementary School, A t­
lanta University Laboratory School,
and Booker T. Washington High
School. He passes the entrance ex­
amination to Atlanta's Morehouse
College without graduating from
high school.
1954 May 17: The Supreme Court
of the United States rules unani-
1941: James Farmer establishes
Congress of Racial Equality (CORE)
and begins lunch counter sit-ins in
Chicago.
1956 January 30: A bomb is
thrown onto the porch of the Kings'
Montgomery home. Coretta King,
Yolanda King, and church member
Lucy Williams are in the house:-no
one is injured. February 2: A suit is
filed in federal district court asking
that Montgomery's travel segrega
tion laws be declared unconstitu-

The OMSI A.S.K. Center is a family-oriented science/fun center that strives ,0 help urban youth
parents develop a healthy, non-threatening view of science. It exists to enhance kids' understanc
prevalent and important science is in our everyday life. But most importantly, the A.S.K
much fun science activities can be while learning very important principles of science.
