Obo Addy & Kukrudu
Ghanaian master drummer Obo Addy and his band Kukrudu present
an hour-long free concert at Portland State at noon Wednesday, Sept. 30.
The performance will take place on the stage in Smith Center s Parkway
Commons ( 1825 SW Broadway, first floor) and everyone is welcome
"Great party music" . . . "jazz-rock riffs with African polyrhythms

With 22 million record sales and numerous awards between them,
Whitney Houston, Anita Baker and Janet Jackson have their fans debating
over whe is the greatest of the three, reports the October Ebony.
Whitney Houston, whose debut album sold more than 14 million
copies and who debuted at No. 1 on the pop charts with the first single
from her second album, is called by her fans, "the All-American girl who
stands apart from the rock-oriented singers by mixing pop with rhythm
Columbia Opens 2nd Season With LUV
Murray Schisgal's hilarious coiuedy-spoof LUV will come to the
Columbia Theater September 25 and play through October 31. Veteran
actor/director Scott Parker has asseinbled a truly fine cast to portray the
very funny and miserable trio of Harry, Milt and Ellen who are all the victims
of lifes trials and tribulations. LUV is a masterful satire on both American
theater and the American way of life.
LUV opens September 25th and will play Thursday, Friday and Satur­
day evenings at 8:00 p.m. through October 31. Tickets are $15.00 for the
opening night gala ($7.00 tax deductible), $8.00 regular Friday and Satur­
day and $7.00 Thursday. Special student and senior ticket rate (2 1 on
Thursday and $1.00 off Friday and Saturday), and group rates are available.
Season Tickets are still also available. For information and/or reservations,
call the theater at 232-7005 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. There
will be a special actors benefit Saturday, October 17th.
PCC Serves Tea and Tour
At Historic Rose Garden
Linda Corbett, gardener for the City of Portland, will conduct a Port­
land Community College tour of the historic Peninsula Park Rose Garden
from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, September 25.
Corbett will point out differences among rose varieties planted in the
garden and discuss interesting aspects of the garden itself. Following the
tour, the group will have tea and dessert at the Peninsula Park Community
Center.

Senior citizens are especially welcome, said Corbett, and may waive
the $4 tuition, paying only a special fee of $2.50. The park community cen­
ter is located at 6400 N. Albina Ave.

work is spiritual, reflective of the culture and country that is Ghana. This
gift of music which Obo Addy and his band offer is African in spirit but

successful blend. His concerts are well attended; his audiences enthusia­
stic, his fans span the West Coast and grow more numerous by the year.
