Delinquent Tax Interest Deductible on 1986 Returns Oregon taxpayers who still owe taxes can save money if they pay up before January 1, 1987 That's because they may deduct all interest paid on delinquent taxes on both their 1986 federal and state returns But the new federal tax reform act will allow deduction on federal returns of only 65 percent of interest paid in 1987 The deduction will be even less in years after 1987 The Oregon Legislature will de cide next year whether to follow the new federal law and allow deduc bons of 65 percent of paid interest in 1987 or to come up with a sepa rate formula.
