Researchers at the Oregon Health
Sciences U niversity are conducting a
study on treatment o l depression m high
school adolescents through an Adoles
cent Coping w ith Depression Course,
available at no cost to e lig ib le hoys and
girls ages 14 IX
Depression among teenagers is
characterized by low sell esteem or
g u ilt, im ta b ih ty , crying spells, loss ol
energy or appetite, d iffic u lty concen
(rating, trouble sleeping and loss o l in
terest in pleasure
A teenager who is depressed may
begin to leel negatively toward friends
and fam ily interactions and may show
poor academic performance
