day after Easter, recognizing it to he one o f their "greatest" feasts It commemo
rated the descent o f the Holy Spirit upon the apostles on this day A cts2 1-4 "A n d
when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one
place And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind,
and it Idled all the house where they were sitting And there appeared unto them
cloven tongues like as o f fire, and it sat upon each o f them And they were all filled
with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave
them utterance

apostles alter their nine days of prayer following the ascension of Jesus into
heaven they then showed themselves more courageous and zealous than they had

Pentecost was later called whitsunday, or White Sunday , because the newly
baptized wore their white baptismal robes on that day. marking the end of the
joyous Easter season
During mass on Pentecost in the catholic churches red robes arc worn to
symbolize the speaking in tongues (described in the htiok o f Acts, in the above
scripture I quoted from the King James Bible.) as lire representing "T h e Holy

The novena prayers arc (he nine days that the apostles along with Jesus' mother
Mary aixl the other believing women prayed for the descent ol the holy spirit This

Pastor Ryan said, "W e pray on today that the spirit w ill inkindle in us devine

This week's up date with food for thought. "A n d when the day of Pentecost was
