held August 19 21 at the U niversity
o f P ortland The annual event draws
priests fro m
throughout western
Oregon.
I he theme selected fo r this year's
gathering is "T h e fu tu re o f the E u
charistic C h u rc h ." fa th e r David
Powe, O M I, w ill be ihe keynote
speaker. The rheme is especially im
portant m light o f the d w ind ling num
ber o f priests to serve as parish pastor.
Already one lay pastor has been as
signed in the archdiocese. Several
workshops on the overall theme w ill
also be provided durin g the conven
tion.
A variety o f resolutions w ill he
voted on by the clergy ai the conven
tion. G enerally, the resolutions are
advisory in nature W hile many o f the
resolutions w ill he offered at the con
vention itself, several have already
been released.
This year marks the fifth annual
Clergy Convention fo r the priests o f
the Portland Archdiocese. There are
175 diocesan priests and 230 religious
order priests serving in parishes in
Western Oregon. The Archdiocese o f
Portland is headed by Archbishop
