Oregonized Party and Auction to benefit Oregon's Vietnam Vets
A party and auction to be held
August 4 at Aurora Airport in A u ­
rora, Oregon, will help fund a me-
moral to the Vietnam Veterans of
Oregon.

The Vietnam Veterans o f Oregon
Memorial Fund was established spe­
cifically to raise money for a memor­
ial to recognize the 57,000 Oregonians
who served in Vietnam and honor the
659 dead and 47 missing in action.
"W hen several other Oregon Viet­
nam Veterans and I saw the National
Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Wash
ington, D .C ., we wanted to create a
memorial here in Oregon just for Ore­
gon Vietnam V eU ,” said Robert
Hunter, board director, Vietnam
Veterans o f Oregon Memorial Fund.
Having decided a memorial was
wanted, the question became: What
sort of memorial was it to be?
It was decided that the memorial
should provide an opportunity to
reconcile differences that arose out of
the Vietnam W ar and to acknowledge
the efforts of those who served our
country.
The landscape architectural firm o f
Walker and Macy has developed a
design which fulfills all the qualfica-
tions of the board The memorial will
be built on land midway between the
Western Forestry Center and Hoyt
Arboretum in Washington Park.
Consistent with the arboretum, the
memorial park will grow and change
with the seasons and the years. It will
be a place of containment and re­
treat from the activity around it as
well as a place lor viewing the sur­
rounding city, valley and distant Cas­
cade Mountains.
Visitors to the Vietnam Veterans of
Oregon Memorial Park will discover a
place to remember and reflect
The Vietnam Veterans of Oregon
Memorial will be funded entirely by
donations. The Vietnam Veterans are
counting on the support o f all Ore­
gonians io get this memorial built
The group has put on several fund-
raising functions to date, but the

planned for August 4th at Aurora
Airport will be one o f the must ambi­
tious yet.
"T he day will feature exciting en­
tertainment, including the U.S. Para­
chute Association Skydivers, antique
aircraft and aircraft displays and
lots m ore," said Doug Bomanto.
Entertainment starts at J p.m.
Food will be available and beverages
will be free.
The auction segment gets underway
at 3:30 p.m . with a silent auction.
Oran auction follows with auctioneer
Colonel Jeffrey Mandell. Auction
goers will have a chance to bid on a
wide selection o f varied Oregon dona­
tions.

ing the memorial
